1987 Fleer Baseball Forum

I was looking for some logo cards to add to my Want List and came across what I believe to be inconsistencies in labeling these stickers, but I didn't want to start if someone sees that I'm wrong in what I'm seeing.

These are the cards in question.

#1:

1987 Fleer - Team Stickers #NNO - Houston Astros - Houston Astros

#2:

1987 Fleer - Team Stickers #NNO - Houston Astros / Seattle Mariners - Houston Astros / Seattle Mariners

#3:

1987 Fleer - Team Stickers #NNO - Los Angeles Dodgers / Cleveland Indians - Los Angeles Dodgers / Cleveland Indians / Houston Astros

The way I see it, #3, is most accurate because it references all the teams on the card, front and back, while the others don't reference the backs.

Should this be corrected? And, if so, I'd be willing to do it with some guidance.

I put those in a few years ago.  These were all actually the front and backs on the cards, but there are more.  I can go through them all and put every unique occurrence of the front / back in as separate cards.  I just filled in the 55 cards listed in the checklist.  I have over 3000  of these 1987 Fleer Team Stickers.  We can leave it as is and call it "good enough".

Essentially, Fleer didn't have one back per sticker front (like cards have), so any back can be paired with any front.

The best way we've come up with to catalogue these types of releases is to count the sticker portion (fronts) as the base set, ignoring the 26 posibilities for the reverse. Then, list the 26 backs as a related set (again, ignoring the 40 or 55 - or however many - potential fronts that could go with each back). There is the potential for 1430 different combinations (based on gb24's 55 listing, which I trust).

Is that really the path we want to go down?

yes, these were fun to put in order.  I put the first in order by front, then the second in order by backs.   Just made it easier for me.    Too many variations to list on a checklist.

Hmm? That does sound like a lot of work. So, probably not many may be interested in this, but to my initial point does what we have need to be fixed? 

And if those combinations were added, would those qualify as variations?

Whatever we decide I wanting the Astros stickers, especially the backs. 

Technically, the way I described things, example #3 is listed incorrectly.

And you may be able to find 55 different sticker fronts for the Astros backs.

Of course, Fleer may have only used 20 of them, but they didn't document it anywhere, so no real way of knowing all the combinations that actually exist. Have fun looking.

Actually, there is. I have an old out-of-print source that describes all Fleer Sticker errs/vars. The 1987 Fleer Stickers were "devoid" of any errs/vars according to this source. They were listed as printed. If I weren't so busy I would try and verify. If anybody is interested try the Fleer Sticker Project.

A good example of errs/vars can be found in the 1991 Fleer Stickers. I have them detailed in my collection, but still to this day, there are a few questions that arise.....say Padres stickers!

BTW: What Astro stickers do you need?.....I go all the way back to the cloth stickers

I haven't added these Astros cards, yet, but I think I do have the cloth stickers on my want list. How far back do they go?

They were printed over a period of years before the 1977-1979 Fleer Grandslammers. Do you have the Grandslammers? There were a bunch of them printed with puzzles on the back that differ. ~BOB~
