A man has to have goals — for a day, for a lifetime — and that was mine, to have people say, "There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived."

hmmm... I just ran the numbers. He spent an average $38 per card (cost, grading, shipping). Current Book Value on graded 9 is $12-15. He is currently at a loss of between $60,000 - $115,000 for his collection. Not a very smart investment. I guess he's hoping the value will skyrocket if Barry Bonds gets in the Hall of Fame (keep dreaming).
Gee, really makes my signature line (read below) hit home.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I’ll never understand the appeal of collecting a large number of the same card. To each his own but you could have a really nice varitety of cards for the money he’s spent. I guess it must be somewhat popular otherwise there wouldn’t be so many same card lots on eBay with 100+ cards in them.

Love that card! But I'm rather monogamous and will gladly trade any others I may have.

I agree 100% - never understood people selling lots of hundreds of the same card on Ebay either.

I remember as a kid buying 100 Ron Gant rookies at a card show for a couple dollars. I thought it was the best deal ever. Not sure what I ever did with them.

I understand selling them. I don't collect dupes except for particular purposes like a display. Other than that they're on my Trade List.

I have some Tex Avery collections on DVD. Droopy is my favorite.

I will speculate on hot Blackhawk Rookies especially Young Guns and buy around 10 of each. Then when my stupid General Manager trades him away 9 of them go up on my for sale/trade list. I had almost amassed every Teuvo Teravainen Rookie card out there when the Dumber Bowman shipped him off to Carolina. UGH!! The next year I thought about doing it for Panarin too but thank my lucky stars I didn't.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.
