I have some 1986 duplicates that I will trade at least 6 to 1 in your favor for cards from my want list if anyone is interested.

For 80s sets the 1986 set is near the top for me. I use design over other factors.
- 1989 because of the swoosh
- 1986 for its closeness to the 1964 design
- 1987 for the uniqueness of the woodgrain

I partial to the 89 set probably because thats when i started collecting. Yes i was a late starter. The 87 would be my next 80 then 81 then the 86

Whoa whoa whoa, people. what is going on here? the thread asks people to join in who think 1986 is the greatest set/card of all time. Instead, It appears a lot of riff raff has infiltrated this attempted movement to stir up trouble and create conflict by attacking 1986 Topps or proclaiming (falsely) some other set as the greatest.
Im just joking, all participation is appreciated, but let's hear someone out there defend 1986 Topps and attack the other sets proposed as greatest.

1986 was probably one of the better sets of the 1980s for Topps. I'd have to be more partial to 1989 Topps (When I started collecting) 1987 (Who can hate the woodies) and 1984 (Just a really clean design, and definitely and upgrade over 1983) I'd put it at 4th for the 1980s. The design was clean overall, but other sets definitely were better during the junk days.

Didn't think I'd get this far from building robots in the garage, but here we are now. Wish I could make a robot that could scan every image of my cards in here...

1986 Topps baseball gets a lot of hate, but I really like it. I wouldn't say it's the best, but when you consider baseball and football together, 1986 is a solid year for Topps. I could argue that 86 football is Topps' best.

I like 86, but not my favorite, neither all-time nor in the 80s. I have some fond memories of opening 86, but 84 will always win out for me when it comes to the 80s sets.

The 86 topps design is a pretty good one. For me 1986-1988 is when i figured out that my cards weren't going to ever be worth what I thought they would be, so I have some bias against cards from those years. I can think of about 20 other designs I like better. To each his own.

One of the best things about cards is that what you consider a great set depends on when you enter the hobby. For me it is 1986, but I'm sure there are some people that bought cards the first time in 1997 and think the red/green colorblind set is just the best ever. I feel bad for those people, but as long as they are happy. The greatest thing about cards in general is there is something for everyone and for every set there is at least one person that thinks it is the best ever.
