I have a box of these and the packaging has a copyright date of 1987 for both Topps and Boardwalk and Baseball, and a 1985 date for TCG.
Just wondering if these were re-released in '87, and if they should be logged as such. Not sure if there are any differences (argh, variations).

I would just add the 1987 boxes to the packaging for the set. Most likely they massively over-produced these, and later were still looking for an avenue to unload them.

I know the sets I had came in a collectors kit with a Topps album and probably some 9-pocket sheets. And i doubt they were bought at Woolworth's.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I have no doubt they were originally sold at Woolworth's in 1985, but by 1987, who could find a Woolworth's anywhere?

Sorry Clyde, I wasnt disputing that, if it came across that way. I was actually agreeing with you and your overproduction theory.

The only set I ever saw in person was from one of those collector kits that a friend had when we were kids.

In 1987 I was 16 years old (oh boy!) and I remember me and my friend buying like 3 of those collector kits you're talking about, they were fun! Indeed they included this Woolworth series and a bunch of 1987 Topps Baseball regular cards along with stickers, plastic protector sheets and a binder.
The most interesting items on those kits were a pair of Hygrade printed guides which really help introduce me into the world of sports cards collecting. I still have them.

I miss the days when you could easily tell the difference between the front and the back on a sports trading card.

I don't have an answer about the cards. But in my hometown, Woolworths was still around until the mid-90's. Kmart took a bunch of their business around 1990 when they opened a few miles away and then WalMart moved in right down the street. Woolworths was closed within a year of the Walmart opening. I used to buy lots of cards at Woolworths as a kid and teenager, even though it was farther away than the LCS.

I believe it was this Topps collectors kit that started my collection. The binder had vintage cards on it. Am almost positive it still holds my 1988 Topps cards.
