I read, and re-read, Ball Four during my high school days. I love that book. Somewhere around here, I have an autographed copy of it (I saw it at a Barnes & Noble, cheap, and couldn't pass it up). His style of writing may not have been the best, but it was good enough to allow the reader to fully grasp life as a baseball player, both majors AND minors. Rest in peace, Jim. We'll remember you for more than your stats - we'll tell your statitics to shut up! :)

That was a cool book. I've read it a few times. The first time was before I was a teen. R.I.P. Jim.

I've been wanting to read "Ball Four" all my life.  I finally bought a first edition on e-Bay for cheap about two weeks ago.  I hadn't even had a chance to start reading it when I found out he had passed away.  RIP Jim.

There's a great documentary on Netflix called "The Battered Bastards Of Baseball" - a part of which details Bouton's attempt at an MLB come back by playing for the Portland Mavericks. Highly recommended.

Agreed.  The documentary was pretty awesome.

I may look for that doc.  Actually use my Netflix for something besides Trailer Park Boys.
