77 years old. Been a rough period for Hall of Famers

Aw man, this year absolutely sucks. Another boyhood hero gone. Joe's Big Red Machine and my Dodgers were bitter rivals in the'70s but I always respected his talents as a player. I still remember watching the Saturday game of the week on NBC and Tony Kubek saying in amazement "Joe Morgan's putting on a clinic out there!". Complete ballplayer, great Hall of Famer. RIP Joe.

This is getting to be a real punch to the gut. I am too young to have seen Lou Brock, Whitey Ford or Bob Gibson play, but their losses coupled with some of my favorites growing up (Tom Seaver, Joe Morgan, Jay Johnstone), is tough. Coupled with the loss of Eddie Van Halen, more and more of my youth is going away every day...

Wow. Is he the 6th HOF to pass this year? I Have found when you get to your 60's, many of the players who pass away, were ones you grew up hearing them play and collecting their cards. RIP

I'm 58 and it feels like I've reached the age where a lot of people who were interesting to me are going to be passing away a lot more frequently. When I hear they passed it doesn't seem like they should be that old.

It was just over 40 years ago (October 10, 1980) I recall getting off work at a radio station at rush hour to get home to join the rest of Houston watching the Astros against the Phillies in the '80 LCS. Very few cars on the freeway. In the 11th inning, Morgan smacks a hit to the wall in the cavernous Astrodome for a triple to open the bottom of the frame. I'm still driving and start joyously pounding on the car's console when this older lady in a car starts passing me. When I look over she gives the A-OK sign with her hand. It was one of those magical moments. Houston went on to win the game in one of the most memorable games (and playoff series) in my life. All thanks to Joe. 

RIP Joe. 

I was surprised to hear that he passed.  It has been a rough year for hall of famers, I hope we don't lose anymore this year.
