Ken Griffey Sr. Forum

A project for anyone (or a tag team) with the appropriate permissions: we need "Sr." removed from all the Ken Griffey Name fields unless the card specifically says "Sr." on it. Looks like many have been done already ... we just need other pairs of eyes to go through and edit the remainder where needed.

One of the biggest complaints people seem to have with the site is lack of consistency and not following the guidelines. The FAQ says that names should match what is printed on the card. So, yes, this falls under the umbrella of things that "need" to be done.

However, it's not urgent. There's a hundred more things that need attention before these details. I think that's why you see Ed making these a forum post rather than an IR. What a great opportunity for someone who is new to the Database but wants to help out; plus an easy way to rack up a handful of points for the end of the month.

I for one, as a person who doesn't scan(yet) and is just trying out editing, appreciate the chance to help out in these non-urgent but helpful ways. I've done a few now... but have a question

Says griffey sr on back but not on front. Worth taking a quick look at before answering, just to see the way it lists the names on front.

When the names are different on front vs back, use what's on the front. Thanks!

@switzr -- We're trying to have the database as accurate as possible, including matching names on the fronts, and this is one of the times where users that may not be comfortable with handling IRs or cropping scans can still help improve the site. It also means we won't see IRs like "My card says Guillermo Hernandez instead of Willie. Please add a VAR"

I was entering some 1994 topps cards and created an IR for a name change (I forget who). Is a name change something any level can do? And if so, I am assuming instructions are in the FAQs?

How about approaching with a little common sense when matching "exactly what's printed".  Tom vs Tommy, Rich vs Richie, etc? Change all the cards that only have last name on them?  No name? First initial and last name?  Single word nicknames?  How about the team field?  Change all the unlicensed Panini products that only list a city/state or 3-letter abbreviations?  "Matching exactly" can get out of hand and go too far.

Nobody's doing anything after that first one. Relax
