He passed today from cancer at 84.
Not many athletes can cause their sport to change the measurements/rules like when they lowered the pitching mound in 69
A great Cardinal for sure.

Oh my. 2020 is the worst. Al Kaline, Tom Seaver, "Hoot". Man, it just keeps coming.

My thoughts exactly. One of the most dominant pitchers during his peak. RIP

Losing Bob Gibson and Lou Brock in a month is hard to deal with as a Cards fan. Gibson was probably my all time favorite Cardinal, and while I have been preparing for this ever since his pancreatic cancer diagnosis was announced, it still hurts to hear

As a Cards fan born in '67 to a huge sports fan (RIP Dad), my formative years were heaviliy influenced by the Redbirds, the Big Red and the Blues. There wssn't much to celebrate with the Caradinals in the 70s. Why did we wear Victory Blue uniforms when victories were so sparse? But we had Lou Brock, and we had Bob Gibson. And there were other greats of course. Was Simmons really a HOFer? I'm not sure because I constantly compared him to Bench. But there was no denying Brock and Gibson. And now they are gone together.
The Gibson stories of his competitiveness are legendary, and I look forward to hearing them again from his compatriots this weekend in memoriam. But he was also a great speaker and role model. I heard him speak at an event once and he was so clear and commanding and focused--just like on the mound. An honorable ambassador for baseball, for the Cardinals, for Creighton and for Omaha. I was blessed to be at the game for his 3000th K (Cesar Geronimo), and I think for the day we retired #45. I saw him strike people out, and I saw him hit home runs (which pitchers just don't do, you know!)
Thank you, Mr. Gibson. I missed your prime years, perhaps, but they will not be forgotten. Because you were Cardinal, and Cardinal history is handed down from generation to generation. Rest in Peace.

My office at my home is deemed the Baseball Room because it is decorated with all my baseball memorabilia. There's cool artwork, baseball gear, cards, bobbleheads, giveaways from games, scorecards, autograph balls and caps, and all sorts of stuff. But the centerpiece of it all is a framed collection of World Series Ticket Stubs from the three WS STL played in the '60s, the press pins from those WS, and one sweet autographed photo of Gibby. It's the only autographed photo I have on my walls, and there's a reason for that. He was my first hero.
