One of the players who epitomized the spirit of the Dallas Cowboys died yesterday. No cause of death was released, but he had been suffering from Alzheimer's.
Super Bowl V gave me the greatest memory of him as it was revealed that he played the game on a bum knee that used about 30-yards of tape so that he could play. When he ran in that game (and any other) there was none tougher than he at grinding out yardage.
His first love, though, was the rodeo. And he was allowed to participate in that for awhile by the Cowboys.
He also gained fame away from the game as a spokesman for Skoal.
Great memories from Walt Garrison.
Rest in peace, Mr. Garrison.
