Welcome to the “SaintOrm 500”. Ladies and gentlemen, start your search engines!
I am going to be hosting a TCDb Giveaway for nearly 1,000 NASCAR cards from my collection. There will be five prizes available to the fastest - and most accurate - trivia researchers. You can preview the prizes up for grabs in my profile’s Collections lists.
The contest will consist of five “qualifying races”: the AP 50, the CITGO 121, the CC 130, the PP 150, and the SaintOrm 500.
Each race will have six questions in the style of Trivial Pursuit, with classic categories: Geography, Entertainment, History, Arts & Literature, Science & Nature, and Sports & Leisure. I did my best to keep it somewhat racing or sports related, but there will be many random subjects covered as well.
Each race will have a separate Giveaway link, which will be found on the second post of this forum thread. All six answers in each race will have a common theme, which should help you find the correct ones. Most questions should be easy to figure out, but there will be a few tricky ones – so read carefully & follow the clues or hints.
Answers can be submitted as a list - no need for re-typing the category headings. Spelling errors or "fat-fingers" won't count against you, so long as it's clear you have the right answer. If you can't figure one out, leave a blank or just skip to the next answer. You can resubmit or edit your entry, time permitting, but your score will be based on your last submission.
Races will occur every other night, starting this Thursday (July 14th) with the grand finale next Friday (July 22nd). Post time is 8 PM (Pacific) and submissions will be accepted until 5 PM (Pacific) the following day, giving you a 21-hour window. On the day after a race, I will post the results & update overall standings - located on the third post of this thread.
Winning one race does not get you a prize! Participants will earn points in each race, and the points leader after all five races will win the grand prize: the “SaintOrm 500” Collection. Other prizes will be chosen by the remaining top-5 finishers, in order. If anyone wishes to “pass” on the remaining prizes, the choice will go to the next in line until all are claimed.
Points will be equal to the order of finish in each race. The fastest submission, with all six correct answers, will be awarded 1 point. All others with all six correct will be ranked in order of their submission times. However, for every question you get wrong (or leave blank), you will get “lapped” by the field!
Example: if only ten people get all 6 correct, they would be ranked #1-10 by submission time, then all those with 5 correct will be ranked from #11 on down, followed by all those with only 4 correct, etc. Anyone who misses a race (or does not submit answers in time) will receive a score equal to that race’s last-place finishing position + 1.
In case of a tie in the overall points standings, the fastest total submission time from all the races will determine who’s on top.
Please only submit your answers on the Giveaway links. Do not reply to this forum thread with trivia answers to an active race. Comments & polite trash-talk afterwards are welcome, of course. Questions can be sent to me via Messages as well.
As some of you may know, the Maxx ‘95 Clear Chrome (CC 130) prize cards are “sticky” acetate, but all of them were penny-sleeved after I opened the packs. Also, the Maxx ’95 Premier Plus (PP 150) prize cards are “hulking” - the color (mainly in the facial area) is fading. The rest of my cards are in great shape, as my past TCDb traders would attest.
This giveaway is free to all who participate & the prizes will be shipped for free – even to those TCDb members outside the U.S.
Good luck to all!
