I STILL don't know exactly why NASCAR dropped the field from 43 to only 40 cars several years ago. I'm guessing it had to do with money though. Spreading the sponsorship money for the race positions with 3 less drivers gives everyone a little bit more money. Then the charters dropped out a couple more cars for most races. I think this new car changes things a little bit, at least for a little while. It will only take a month to see if 40 cars even try to get to every race this season. Funny how HMS keeps smoking everyone in D500 Qualifying every year though! Not close to fastest in practices, but still top the boards in the Q-runs. Then none of them wins the 500 itself. Seems like they need to stop trying so hard to start first and second for the race. Toyota and Ford don't win the front row, but they do win the race more often than Chevy does. It's going to be fun to see the Duels and the D500!

Times weren't that spread out... Considering almost all the cars were running at 7800 RPM...
Slower cars were putting in 7600/7700, did see a couple jump up to 7900 but only for a second or so....
It didn't take NASCAR long to change rules about cars crabbing....
Along with several other rules...
Looks like it will be a long year as teams figure out what is crossing the line on things....

It's raceday!
It's early but nothing takes the wind out of the sails of the biggest race then the announcers not announcing during the first lap of the race.

Oh, was Daytona today? I actually thought about giving auto racing another shot this year. Maybe it's not over yet...
