Ok. Due to the sheer amount of new players (46) that I've had to add, the updated version will not come out until tomorrow morning at around 11 AM NY Standard time.
I hope that you can understand, as I don't want to be rushing the quality of the post so if you're at Luis Aparicio, I'm not going "Not a Hall of Famer, next."
See you tomorrow.

my old school opinion is that the HOF has been severely diluted over the years. the standard was established in 1936 and that should have remained the standard. the greatest of the greats. no sentimentality should be involved. managers, executives, umpires, etc. should be recognized, but in a separate category, like broadcasters. i feel the same about negro league players. they definitely deserve to be remembered, but, for the most part, the records are incomplete and based on hearsay. were the negro leagues on par with the 30's and 40's pacific coast league? why not start including career minor leaguers who had awesome stats but never excelled in the Major Leagues. personally, i think that more than half of the HOF membership needs to be re-classified or removed, only those players who were elite and totally dominated the game. marvin miller did 10 times the damage to MLB than shoeless joe, pete rose, bonds, clemons, mcgwuire, etc. bud selig? yuk. i love the giants, my son's name is travis jackson kennedy, but does travis jackson belong in the same group as ruth, mathewson, cobb, wagner and johnson, absolutely not. i grew up idolizing willie mccovey, my all time favorite player. is he hall of fame worthy? no. edgar martinez, trammell, thome, trevor hoffman, bagwell, larkin, joe gordon - are you kidding me. the reject list can go on for many, many, of these guys. not to say that they were not great ball players. anyone of the 800 +/- players in the game at any one time are so much better than the millions of us wanna be's. the worst major leaguer in any given year is there for a reason. but the HOF should be reserved for the very few who completely dominated the game for at least 10 years. just the opinion of a long time fan who hates change.

It's still the hardest most elite hall of fame to get into. Trevor Hoffman saved more games than anyone save one. McCovey hit 521 homers at a time that was really hard. I'm afraid by your criteria, there'd be about three guys voted in per decade. And that just doesn't feel right to me.
But we can argue all day, and that's what makes it fun.

I think guys like McGriff and Lofton lose some star power because of how many teams they played for. Doesn't make them leas deserving, just less of a push from any geographical area or lobbying person on their behalf...if that makea sense.

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now.

Will Clark . When it can be said that from 1988 to1991 he was the best player in the game or one of the top notch players for sure. Clutch performer. Big hit after big hit. So many of those above mentioned players were never the best . Its the best of the best . Thats what it should be but it probably isnt. All the HOFs are severely diluted.

Not to start an argument with someone who knows a lot more about baseball than me but if you are looking at the "back-of-a-baseball-card stats" and then comparing them to WAR you are doing WAR a disservice.
For the hitter side WAR uses a lot more than the traditional run/HR/RBI/ave stats sepcifically defensive and baserunning (not just SB) inputs.
The replacement level also changes for positions so a passable defensive CF or SS gets a boost vs a passable defensive 1B with the same level of offensive production. A DH with the same offensive production gets penalised heavily. So, if a player changes positions down the defensive spectrum — or especiallyt moves to DH — they can have better baseball-card stats but lower WAR fairly easily.
Also, as WAR is not context neutral, when, as a recent example, they play a season with the "happy-fun-home-run balls" and overall offensive production increases a player can again increase their offensive stats, but if it is by less than the increase for the hypothetical "replacement player" then their WAR will fall.
Having said that WAR is by no means perfect as defensive stats especially tend to be fairly noisey even year-to-year leading to interesting values. However, just saying "my baseball card disagees with WAR therefore WAR is flawed" seems like you are arbitrarily dismissing the statistic without giving it a full understanding.
