On this day in 1952 my Uncle, Jim Hughes was called up by the Brooklyn Dodgers from their Montreal farm team.
The Newspaper excerpt reads as follows.
Jim Hughes, 28, a former Chicago sandlot baseball star and this season a star relief hurler with Montreal in the International League, yesterday was called up to finish the season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, National League leaders.
The 6 foot 2 inch right hander received his start in baseball in the Chicago Baseball League, a sandlot organization that for 25 years has been headed by his father, Chicago Frie Department Captain Bill Hughes of hook and ladder company No. 15, 8th battalion.
Jim, a marine veteran, was graduated from Calumet Highschool.
