Being from Oregon and living on the coast and in the mountians. I hate going to the beach. I love getting to know more about people and especially the people in the hobby. So, would you like to go to the mountian or the ocean for a vaccation?

While I do enjoy the mountains, as a San Diegan, I'll take the ocean.

As some one who went to school in Monterey, CA. I'll still take the mountains all day. Less people. More Peaceful. And away from the outside world.

Moutains look nice but sounds like a lot of uphill climbing to me.

Beaches mean cool breezes, palm trees and mai tais in my head, so I'll take that.

...But I live in Iowa so I really have no idea what either one is like.

Tough choice! I love the sound of the ocean and enjoy walking the beach along the water's edge. However, Fall is my favorite season and nothing beats the beauty of the foliage in the mountains and valleys. Oh and I love snow and that's way better in the mountains. I choose ocean for Spring/Summer and mountains for Fall/Winter.

I recall both times in my life when I've experienced both: South Padre Island and Virginia Beach and mountains in Mexico and the Appalachian and Great Smokies. Mountains win for me. Both are awe-inspiring. 

I grew up on a farm in Kansas. I enjoy being outside and if beach or mountain are my only choices I'd chose mountains.  
I'd like to offer a third choice museums.  My first choice when traveling is to find a museum and take in the exhibits.  

Living in SoCal, I've been to both. I never really liked the beach. It looks great but ocean air always smelled funky to me. The sand was always too hot and the ocean water is too cold. Riptides can and do occur so I don't go swimming in the ocean. I'll take the mountains.

Great question! I prefer the beach, definitely, although I'm not the type to go swimming all day or lay out and try to get a tan. (The dermatologist says I did way too much of that when I was in my teens and 20s.) My mother has a condo on the beach, and it's fun to visit and walk along the beach every evening. I love eating at restaurants with a good view of the ocean.

The mountains are wonderful, too. We visited Colorado a few years ago, and the views from various mountain tops were inspiring as well. 

My favorite vacations still are going to large cities where I can go see major league baseball games. Also, like someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, it's easy to lose yourself in a good museum. It's fun to take walking tours. A variety of places to eat is good, too.

Mountains, beaches, large cities, small cities, out in the country -- it's all fun for me.

Just got home Saturday from camping on a lake in the wilderness of Michigan. But since me screen name is the Outer Banks and grew up in Virginia Beach. I have to go with the beach.
