Since this thread got revived, I guess I should give an update about my previous post from last June when I was happily unemployed...

I didn't get a new type of job. I got the same old job, but in a new way. Now I am an Independant Contractor for the company that paid my previous employer for many of their accounts (including multiple ones that I handled myself for my former company). As I posted before in speculation, my departure from the cleaning company resulted in significant losses to the company. They lost one of my former accounts last June and then another employee quit the next month. The company had to drop that account because they had nobody to replace him in the area. Since I had acquainted myself with the owner of the overseeing company over 15 years ago, he called me as soon as he heard that I was available. I took the job as an independant contractor and now get ALL of the money that my former employer got from it but didn't pay the employee doing the job. I started in August and things have been great. The employees of the facility love me and the work I do (and even give me random non-monetary bonuses - mostly free food), my "new boss" doesn't bother me AT ALL and I'm working half the hours I did before and earning about $7 more per hour. Work-stress dropped to nearly zero (only winter weather adds a little stress now). The distance to work is 9 miles farther away, but it's all on high-speed roads now (45mph to 70mph), so it takes about the same amount of time to drive there as my previous job. I'm loving this "new" job so far after 4.5 months and I love it more since I stuck it to my former employer. I didn't just get rid of his crap, but I basically stole an account from him too. He got what he deserved for suddenly treating me like crap after I worked for him for 20 years! My brother still works for that same company and the boss quickly left him alone to do his job after I quit. Even the "downside" of this new job isn't bad for me. I have to buy my own supplies to do the job now. I've spent $65 on a box of mop heads and nothing else so far. The bonus on that is that I don't have to BEG for supplies for weeks or months like I did with the previous company. If I need it soon, I buy it. No more begging for stuff I NEED to do the job right. I'm loving this new setup for my professional life and I'll eventually branch out to pick up more cleaning accounts for myself alone. I have plenty of options within a couple of blocks of my current account.

Marius, I retired from education as an administrator (started as a teacher), but also coached middle school basketball for about 15 years. Fun times pacing the sidelines.

Great thread; I missed it the first time around! I'm a traffic engineer/transportation planner. I plan traffic jams :).

I work many jobs:

High School Teacher

Head Varsity baseball coach in spring & Head sr legion baseball coach.

Room supervise ACT 5 times a year.

Work 4 to 6 asleep overnights 1 to 1 with a person who has severe health and mental health problems.

Sort unisgned cards and sell in lots (not making much on this!)

*I also coached RES softball 2018, 2019, 2020 (but stepped away due to some health issues).

Avid disc golfer (Course Ambassador for a course in my town). Run leagues and help maintain.

Volunteer time with Homers Heroes (boys/girls that have special needs that meet to play softball/baseball).

I'm a high schooler, which I think counts as a job.

I'm currently a college student majoring in engineering. I hope to get into the field in the coming years.

I am also a part-time tennis coach for a local athletics club in my free time.

I'm a Technology Integration Specialist for a school district in Kansas. I support, train, troubleshoot, and teach teachers, students, and parents how to use all their classroom technology. I also teach a couple of classes for a local college. I was a middle school teacher and 7th grade football coach for 13 years and had Tevin Jenkins (2nd round pick of the Bears) play for me when he was a 7th grader. He is one of my PC targets so you can send his cards my way!
