I just heard this morning on the radio that the NBA is going to allow its member teams to place advertising on their jerseys.  I don't know much more than that but I am interested in what people's opinions are on this topic.

Myself I have no problem with it.  As a long time soccer and Formula 1 follower advertising on shirts, uniforms and cars is something I have been accustomed to for a long time.  As with anything sometimes the advertising can either enhance or have a negative backlash associated with it.  One of my favorite new shirts this season is the Barbasol Columbus Crew shirts.  I liked it so much that I have indeed switched my shaving cream brand to Barbasol.

I don't have a favorite NBA team but one thing I think this move would do is increase the possibility of me buying an NBA shirt or jersey.  Say, for instance, Los Angeles Clippers put a KIA advert on their jerseys.  I drive a KIA and really like it.  A move like that for the Clippers would make me consider buying one of their shirts.

Aww man, I don't know about this.  Those other sports I can see where it's appropriate. I mean soccer doesn't even have commercials during the games only at halftime, so ads on the jerseys is totally understandable. 

If the NBA where just coming out and they were struggling financially, sure do whatever you can, but they're doing fine. So what's the motivation at this point to do that?  Is it greed?

If a jersey manufacturer wants to put a small logo somewhere on the jersey, that's fine by me. But an ad for Tide on a classic jersey would be crossing the line I think. 

There are plenty of commercials during the game.  There are flashing ads under the scorers table. They sold the naming rights to the arenas. Is the whole thing for sale?  David Stern should put ads on his business suits. 

From what I have been able to find out after further reading is that the change is not going to happen until the 2013-14 season.  Also advert space will be limited to a 2"x2" square on the upper left of the jersey.

I heard Tampax is going to be the jersey sponsor for the Miami Heat.

I can't wait for the 2014-15 Panini "1 of 1" advertiser logo cards w/signature to come out!

 This is pure stupidity and greed.   I dont know which commissioner is worse.    I dont wear advertising for companies on my clothing.   And if I drive a Ford or Toyota, why would I wear a jersey that said "Kia" or "Nissan" on it?

 They now have the new Adidas T-shirts as jerseys. There is plenty of advertising space on them. The appeal to me of this jersey is like "Are you seriouse? You think you can take me on in your warm-ups?"
