The death of former MLB player Dave Henderson got me to wondering about notable sports figures deaths for the year. We all remember the big names, like Ernie Banks & Yogi Berra. But looking back over the year, there were several players we all remember for their smaller contributions to their sport. It's a morbid curiosity, but death is a part of life.

Holy crap! Thanks B.K. I also am obligated to throw out the following quotes: "You learn something new everyday" & "You can teach an old dog new tricks". There are many more deaths listed there than I knew about. Makes me sad, but nice to remember some of the lesser stars.

At www.Baseball-Almanac.com, you get see a list of all deaths by date (or location) by hovering over the "Players" tab, and then clicking on "Year of Death Analysis".  For 2015, there was also:

Minnie Minoso (7x All-Star, 3x Gold Glove)

Al Rosen (4x All-Star, '53 MVP, '48 World Series ring)

Joaquin Andujar (4x All-Star, Gold Glove, '82 World Series ring)

Dean Chance (2x All-Star, '64 Cy Young)

I just checked in Memorium under basketball in 2015 and noticed that we lost both Hot Rod Hundley and Hot Rod Williams this year. Hundley spent his final years suffering from Alzheimer's disease and Williams from a short battle with prostate cancer at a young 53.

 And for the older collectors, this week we lost Frank Malzone and Jimmy O'Toole.   Two guys I grew up collecting.   May they rest in peace.

Tough year for wrestling fans too. Roddy Piper and Dusty Rhodes, among others.

Odd.. That would be three Hot Rods gone.. Hot Rod, Rowdy Roddy Piper as well..
