Looks like Gallagher (GMS) has bought into RPM (Petty) to produce a #94 Cup Series car for 2022 with Ty Dillon as the driver. I have no idea where this charter came from for the #94 car. But GMS will use RPM facilities to help get the 94 car ready for the 2022 season. Petty will still run the #43 car with Erik Jones as an RPM car in Cup. This is an interesting change to NCS. I still have no idea where this "EXTRA" charter is coming from as I thought all 36 of them were accounted for already. Anybody have an idea they'd like to share about that?!

Petty had 2 But rented one out. Now they will be using both, GMS owning petty, I wonder if they will both be Petty cars? or 1 Petty & 1 GMs?
As for the Charters they need to get rid of them all together and go back to the fastest 42 make the race , If your not fast enough you go home, They brought this in cause JImmie and Jeff weren't fast enough to qualify for a race or 2 , Next season its a guaranteed spot no matter if you were fast enough or not.

Can't even recall the last time 42 ran in a race.....
So many changes on getting into a race since they started the Chase (whatever else it has been called)...
Weren't they qualifying 38 on speed, then let 4 in on points....
Then started the Champions exemption to keep Petty in races way back when....

Orioginally 38 on time and 3 points 1 past champion. Then because JImmie and Jeff weren't fast enough some races the next year they did that top 35 in points guaranteed the last 3 were time 2 points. Then went to charters and now 35 charters guaranteed, everyone else race for 5 rest go home no matter how fast.

You guys are all kinds of wrong about how many Cup cars get in or got in races in the past. It was 43 cars period from the 1990's until the Chase with Stage Points started. Before the Chase for the Championship started, qualifying was the Top-35 in points are in and then past champions with the top qualifiers of those missing that cut mark. Then it was only 40 cars in the race with 36 charters. It's been that way for the past many years. The last 2-4 seasons only saw 37-39 cars in the field for most races because teams weren't going to races that they might just be wasting money to get to the track and still not make the race. The Daytona, Talladega, Watkins Glen and Sonoma races tend to see more than 40 cars attempt to make the race. That's where smaller teams have a chance to win no matter where they start in the field. Since the Stages and Charters started (in the same year), there have rarely been more than 40 cars attempt to get into a race. But the 2021 D500 had 43 cars attempt to get into the race! Three of those cars had to go home with nothing but the wasted effort, time and money that those 3 teams put into trying to make that race!
Lastly, I said in my previous reply the the #43 is still RPM and the #94 will be GMS. The RPM charter that was rented out was to either BJ McCloud or Rick Ware. GMS is now taking that charter spot.

LOL You say we don't know what we are talking about First off the Chase for the cup was started in 2004? Charters for the top 35 in points didn't start till 2016 and stage points started in 2017. And seeing you are the know all about how they started. The champions provisional was always last place, 43rd then 40th, trust me I am a D.W. fan and he used it alot in his last years. I mistakenly put 38 instead of 35 , Sorry about that. But before you start chastising us about our knowledge, make sure we DON't know what we are talking about. WE are having fun and talking on here, You don't have to come across with you know everything and that is that. Lighten up, "WE" are all anxious without any racing on. This is a fun Forum topic and I would like to keep it that way.
I for one am excited for next year, But they need to throw the charters away. and i think its should be the fastest qualifiers don't matter who you are or who is is your sponsor.

I didn't say anything about when the Chase 1st started. Yes, that was 2004 and Matt Kenseth won the title that year for Roush Racing. I said that when the Chase was combined with the Stage Points that everything changed. Again, Charters are for 36 cars, not 35 cars. Everyone finishing after 36th in a race gets ZERO points, even if they are racing for the Cup title. Everyone outside of those 36 cars had to qualify inside the Top-40 to make a race. But when there are less than 40 cars competing, it doesn't matter. I know about the Champions Provisional too as Mikey Waltrip used it WAY more than DW did just to get into races at Daytona and Talladega for years after he "retired" from racing. I'm not trying to argue with anyone about anything, just putting the facts out there. You are right that the charters started the year before the stage points started, but it's so close in the scheme of NASCAR rules that it really doesn't matter.
I completely agree that the charters should be trashed! I don't know why NASCAR decided to do that. It really dropped the other competitors off the chart. They rarely try anymore, even when they do make it into a race. I think the DVP (damaged vehicle policy) really hurt NASCAR too. Yes, that did help get junked cars off the track during the regular season. But it really hurts Champ Contenders in the Chase. With the Roval, 'Dega and Martinsville in the final 6 races, it screws over any contender when they get in a single accident at any track. It screwed Harvick out of a shot at the title last year and kept Kyle Busch out of the Final 4 this year. I hope the new 2022 car makes things a lot more interesting this coming season, but I still wish NASCAR would stop changing the rules every couple of years.
