Well, it's July 1st and that means that Bobby gets paid his $1.19 million!  It's getting closer to the end of that tunnel Mets!  Only 15 more payments!  

Good for Bobby! He definately won that negotiation.

I think I've known about Bobby Bonilla day for nearly a decade at this point, but this year is the first time I've ever heard that Bernie Madoff was involved.   Evidently Madoff had guaranteed the Mets owners he could get them 10% annually on their money and they were only paying Bonilla 8% on his deferred compensation.  It makes so much easier to put oneself in Mets ownership shoes if that's really the case...but is this story a bit of revisionist history?  How did this never come out before?  Or did it and I just wasn't paying attention?

There's also the issue of current value of a dollar (at the time of the agreement) vs. future value (i.e. today's dollars).  The Mets didn't get out-maneuvered as bad as it seems.....

It's that time of year again, so I figured I'd bump up a prior thread on this topic.

Congrats to Mr. Bonilla on another successful annual payday from the Mets, and congrats everyone else for making it around the sun one more time!
