Ramirez (1991) and Sabathia (1997) came through Burlington (when they were affiliated with the Indians) before moving up to the Scrappers at some point. The Burlington Indians also went to a few Championship Series' with at least one title win. But it's been a long time since they won a title. As the Royals affiliate since about 2007, they only went to one CS and lost the series in the 11th inning of the 3rd game! I hated it when they were dropped by Cleveland and then picked up by KC. But I hate it for the team even more that they got dropped from MiLB after they had just spent a bunch of money renovating the stadium only a year or so before the news hit that only 2 Appy League teams would still exist in MiLB. I think Burlington had made plans to play other independent teams in the area of NC/SC/VA, including some of the other Appy teams that got dropped. The cancellation of this season could make them fold for good OR cause a drastic increase in prices next season that would eventually sink the team. Their best night of the entire season was always July 4th for the fireworks display after the game and would attract as many as 7,000 fans. That one night usually covered close to half the expenses for the entire season! Burlington is a small city compared to those around them (Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Winston-Salem). Jim Thome and Cliff Lee also started their careers in Burlington before moving up quickly into the MLB. And another half-dozen or so players made it to the MLB (at least briefly) who started in Burlington. I'd hate to see them disappear completely! I'd certainly miss my hometown team that I watched play many, many games in the 1990's and actually worked for during the 2003 season. I'd have worked for them again if their schedule didn't conflict with my full-time work schedule so much. The best job at an MiLB park is Usher. Once everyone is seated (usually by the start of the 2nd inning), the rest of the job for the night is watching the game and keeping an eye out for troublemakers in the stands. I loved that job! Even though it doesn't pay much, you get to watch most of the game from the stands with the crowd without doing much of anything else.
