Very sad, especially for those who are big fans of their local teams.

I love, love, love minor league ball for a host of reasons...most of which can revolve around the phrase of "Frisbee catching dogs." I really hope that most can survive the current climate.

At least the Royals did right in paying and keeping the players in their system regardless. I believe they were the first to do so.

We just got a new team and a new stadium and everything! I hope they survive until next year.

Same here. The High Point Rockers played their first season last year and were just informed two weeks ago that they could search for opponents outside of their league. I don't know what the Burlington Royals had planned as they were one of the many teams dropped by MiLB, but they also announced the cancellation of the season today. The Winston-Salem Dash AND the Rockers just had both of their fields officially renamed last week as their former sponsor (BB&T) merged with Suntrust to become Truist Bank. Seems like a waste to change all the signs and such with this news now!

2020 was supposed to be the last season for 3 of the 5 teams in my state due to MLBs restructuring of the Minor League system. I guess, last year was the teams last year. So sad.

With this announcement and the dropping of minor league teams by MiLB, we are going to lose our minor league team here (Mahoning Valley Scrappers). In their 20 years here, they have been to the championship 4 times winning one of them! They have a great field and it's wonderful experience going to their games :(
Too bad too since in their 20 years, they have sent 40 players to the majors including Lindor, Sabathia, Rameriez, Kipnis and Bieber.
Sad Sad day :(

They have been a good team over the years. Isn't that stadium behind a shopping mall? :)
I'm not sure what is going to be left of the NY-Penn league. I think 3 of the teams were slated to stick around. That's a pretty small league.

Yep, probably 5 miles tops from where i live......They set attendance records the first year they were in existence. It's tapered off a bit recently, but they usually drew probably 1-2k a game.....I don't think that's bad for a short season Rookie ball team. I thought with the cutting of the teams, that the NY-Penn league basically was done for? We shall see.......We still have the Akron Rubber Ducks, but I haven't been to one of those games since it was the Canton-Akron Indians.

NYPL would be going away or would have independent teams instead. The last plan I saw, Brooklyn would move up to Eastern League AA, Aberdeen would move up to Carolina League high-A, and Hudson Valley and Tri-City would move up to the South Atlantic League low-A. West Virginia was also expected to stick around .... I'm assuming for the Midwest League?
