Interesting articles posted in here, but nothing I didn't already know. Pre-funded retirements 50 years in advance is the main problem with the USPS right now and almost always has been. I know WAY more about how the USPS works than any non-employee should know. If it wasn't for the USPS, my Mom would have had a lot tougher time raising me and my 2 siblings. She is closing in on retirement age as well and has been VERY active in the union for the past decade. She's been the President of the state's branch of the Rural Letter Carriers Union for almost 2 years now, was VP the year before that and Treasurer the year before that and has spoken in front of Congress a few times. Unfortunately, the President can only serve 2 consecutive years, so she'll be out in June. Hopefully, the new President will have her drive, views and success.
Personally, I could thank the USPS for helping her raise 3 children and for helping me finally get to go to St. Louis and see a Cardinals baseball game in-person. They had the National Union Convention there in 2013 and Mom invited me to ride with her and share a suite for the week. While she was in meetings during the day, I was roaming the streets of STL and taking in the sights. It's still the best vacation or trip I've had in over a decade.
USPS should stay public in it's entirety and the mandate should be reduced significantly. No other company on the planet has a mandate that funds retirement plans for possible future employees who are still high school or younger!
