Bru, I agree that one has that right, but I think David was referring to an invitation to the White House as being one that should not be so easily dismissed.
I doubt that if I was in any of the players' positions that I'd be given the time of day to discuss the issues personally with any president, but I'd like to see one's status be used productively for the betterment of us all. I, as a retired school administrator don't have certain doors open to me, but others have that way inside that may prove to be helpful in the long run.

The actual circumstance pales in comparison to a government shutdown. But the context of the issue to me is the polarity that exists and continues to be fueled through all these interactions. Our society is highly media-fed and depending on what side you listen to, there seems to be no desire to compromise in a healthy way. When I worked in schools I spent much of my time convincing people who'd developed a position based on "facts" heard through those "news" sites you refer to. And that is what frustrates me through this type of situation. I'd rather someone take the reins and say this is about our country's future, let's work together to do what's best for all of us, not just about a select few. That's the point I'm making in bringing this up. I think this situation is just a microcosm of life in general in the United States.

Serving McDs, Dominoes and Wendy's meals are the crux of the situation.

What I find laughable is people who “refuse an invite” before anyone even invited them.
Regardless of them going or not, what matters most is how does any of this effect the price of their cards? Do players who go to the whitehouse see a price decrease in their cards or those that stay away see their cards decrease? Does being controversial and getting the player’s name out there no matter what they say increase their value? How can we make the most of this situation?

I generally try to keep political views off this site. Not what I and others are here for. I get plenty of that in my daily life. That said, I love a good political discussion. I'll bite here only on the intersection of cards and politics, however. So, football collectors, how about it? What has happened to the value of Colin Kapernick cards over the last couple of years? Any major change? Nothing? Not asking for a huge debate about his actions, just following up with a specific, easier, example of BradLevi's point. Does a player's actions affect his card value? I'm sure there are some who now will not collect Kap's cards. Others might want them more. So has their value increase, decreased, or been unaffected?

I suppose I'm cut from a different cloth. If I were invited somewhere where I was so diametrically opposed to the person who invited me, that it would cause my blood pressure to go up, I would graciously decline the invitation. There are political figures throughout Washington that I would not want to be in the same room with, regardless of the reason. YMMV.
Namaste,

Michael Vick normal RC $.50 + $2.80 shipping. Of course you only get one. If Vick is an equal comparison then looks like maybe there is little or no difference in value or maybe the more media noticed player a little more.
Does anyone have a better comparison? Or maybe a better way to figure this out. Does someone maybe have prices of cards when Colin Kaepernick was know to only be a football player and then afterwords when he became better know for political views?
