If we take an objective look at the criteria as written:
For ACEO cards, the following criteria must be met:
- The cards cannot feature any current players as they would presumably be under current player association contracts for use of likeness.
- The year of release must be known.
- A complete checklist must be known.
- Sets featuring players, celebrities, and other popular subjects must be produced by a registered company and added to the site organically by collectors (not by individuals of the company seeking to advertise or promote their product).
The bulk of the Edward Vila's art cards feature mostly retired players, but I did see an Aaron Judge art card produced by him in 2023. This criteria may not be met. Maybe lawyers have better things to do then send out a ton of cease as desist letters to small companies, but if he making a profit, I would think someone would have sued him by now. LOL We technically don't know what type of license he may or may not have.
The year of the card is on the back, so I think this criteria is met.
We do not have a checklist, so currently this criteria not met, but I wonder if someone contacted the artist's company if a checklist could be obtained.
When I look at edwardvila.com, I see a copyright line for "The art of Edward Vela", which is likely a registered Company or LLC. I think collectors are looking to organically get these added to the site, not the artist or a representative of his company.
Someone could reach out to the company and confirm that "The art of Edward Vela" has a license to produce an image of Aaron Judge (or any any other current players) and is willing to provide a year by year checklist, correct?
If those criteria are met, could these be added?
I apologize, I am an engineer by trade so I love digging into these kinds of details and asking questions.
