Card Identification Forum

This set has come into question whether or not it actually exists.  I believe i have at least 3 cards from this set.  Can anyone confirm the Kobe Bryant card pictured is from this set or a different set.

I certainly don't know, but every source I've seen for the proof set says they're SN175, which this card does not seem to be.

I should add that this conversation was sparked from an IR that mentioned the SN175. I added it to all cards and then the topic turned to the existence. According to Beckett, I think they're all supposed to be signed by the artist too, but I may be remembering that wrong (I can check the Beckett article and/or link it here later).

My knowledge on these is definitely what I would call "limited", hence why I asked the OP to do us a huge favor and get images out here so we can kind of try to figure this out. Thanks Gibby08!

OK..so for the limited proof set.  I think i have one of them - the Shaq one that is a 1 of 175 but it is in another box.  I guess i will try and find it to post the picture to prove the existence of this set.  May take a while so if anyone else has one handy, could you please post a picture of the limited SN175 cards.

Just because Beckett says they're SN175 doesn't mean they are. They could be PR175.

I think that this set doesn't exist and the write up at Beckett should be against the 1999-00 set that isn't included on Beckett checklists, but the cards are known to exist i.e. 10 card heritage proofs insert on canvas, signed by the artist (the same artist that Beckett said signed the 2000-01 set) and hand serial numbered to 175.

The reasons why I don't think that they exist are:

1. 223 x 175 signed cards is a lot of cards to give away as runners up prizes 

2. That is a lot of cards

3. With that many cards there would cards for sale now and previous examples.

I plan to upload the 10 player checklist for 1999-00.

My suggestion would be to delete 2000-01 when it 1999-00 is added, if there is still no evidence of there existence.

This is an example of 1999-00 with a copy of the artists signature taken from one of his lithographs as a comparison auto.

That appears to be a base card. The photo is not large enough but it looks like it has the standard brown, unbleached and uncoated texture of the base cards, not the texture of the canvas Topps used in the canvas cards it issued in Topps Reserve the same season. 

There is also no artist on this- that's a photograph on the front. The only set that used art in that release is the Deja Vu insert found here: 2000-01 Topps Heritage - Déjà Vu Basketball Checklist | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com) 

Topps Gallery has a Heritage insert in the 1999-00 set which is art-based and has a Proof parallel, but they are not numbered. 1999-00 Topps Gallery - Heritage Proofs Basketball Checklist | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com) It is also a ten card set.

I am unsure if there is an artist-signed version but it would not surprise me. They are unlisted here currently if they do exist. 

I beieve the only parallel in 2000-01 Topps Heritage is the unfortunately named Retrofractor, which is not actually made with Refractor technology...just standard Chrome technology, but if this was some sort of mail away set that would explain why they are not found in packs.

I'm not understanding what you mean by that is a photograph on the front? There is an artist signature on the front of the card above the name. There is a photograph on the bottom of one of the artists lithographs so you can compare the signature on the card to the artists work who is mentioned in the Beckett description of the 2000-01 set.

The card is textured.

Here are my 3 versions side by side. Standard, Artists Proof and Artist Signature. The Artist Signature has silver sticker with numbers on it like Upper Deck stick on some of their mem cards.

These should be my full sized scans 400dpi, please let me know if it doesn't come out big enough. I haven't been able to work out how to show the scans in the post.

Your pictures do not work. The Kobe Bryant card pictured is the card I am talking about.

At your image storage site, open the image. Then right-click on the image and chose "Copy image". Put your cursor in your forum reply window and press Ctrl+V on your keyboard. If you need to adjust the image size, double-click on the image and adjust the Width to 500 or less.
