I have 13 variations of cards from the 1973 Topps Set.  These are cards with gaps in the borders , sometime from to to bottom or left to right.  Here is one of those cards.

More than likely a printing glitch. Some bit of debris got on the plate or platen.

That may be so, but there there are VARs for several cards in this set wit hthe same type of issue in the very same locations. I have several of these VARs, both copies, in my own set build. I reallly do need to finish this set......

Are the gaps in these cards always found in the same location? Are there varying degrees of ink similar to the 'black blob' printing mishaps of 1971?

Which reminds me, would the Kaline 'Band-Aid' card be like the 1990 Griffey 'bloody scar' that was discussed last week?

The gaps are almost entirely found at the bottom of the card, similar to the one above.  Exceptions would be cards with a horizontal layout.  I have 24 of these gap cards in my collection.

As for the Kaline card, I hadn't really thought of the comparison before now.  I would say that they are different in that Kaline actually HAD the bandaid on his head in the original image and Topps airbrushed it out in later print runs.  The Griffey "bloody scar" appears to be an inking issue on the printing plate (although admittedly haven't looked at the Griffey cards in some time)
