Ok so I am old, I can not remember the rules for listing notes for cards with variations. Do both cards get the VAR with the description in the Note2 or just the "b" card, etc. I have two cards in the 93-94 Stadium Club parallel sets that are listed differently and want to make all of them match. Any inf owould be great.

Depends.
If a and b are error and corrected:
Card - Note - Note2
a - "ERR" - "ERR: [reason for error]"
b - "COR" - "COR: [how it was corrected]"
If a and b are both correct, but just a variation:
Card - Note - Note2
a - "VAR" - "VAR: [reason for variation/how it differs from b]"
b - "VAR" - "VAR: [reason for variation/how it differs from a]"
In either case, bith cards get noted, in both note fields, and ERR:, COR:, or VAR: need to be the first 4 characters of the Note2 field to trigger the additional card number field so that the actual card number is what is in the actual number field (so it can be found in searches) yet the a and b display in the checklist view.

Thank you fine sir, the reason for the confusion was the member never added VAR to the note field on the one set, the cards were a and b and could not figure it out. All is fixed. =)

I have noticed that when I search for a card, using the actual number found on the card, the results include card numbers with suffixes still. Is this because, in those cases, the Note 2 field has not been properly completed using ERR, COR, VAR, etc.?
I ask because when I choose the actual card number, not all of the versions appear (in all of my searches so far).
Using Frank Thomas 1990 Topps #414 as an example, this is my preferred search method: Click Browse, select Baseball, Names, Frank Thomas. Then from his page, choose Filter by Card Number. The results include 414, 414a and 414b.
Selecting 414 results in neither version of this well known ERR and COR card, yet the (a) and (b) results show the card page(s) with ERR and COR "properly" noted in the Note2 field.
What am I missing here?

Jon, it's a work in progress. If you find any of those, you can either file an inaccuracy report or fix them.

For the second scenario, it had been my understanding that card "a" gets no VAR designiation but "BASE:" goes in the the Note2 field.

That's actually another scenario. Sometimes the base itself just comes in "2 flavors", and that was the scenario I was describing. Thanks for bringing up that other scenario - and you're correct in that case.

When you say "fix" them, do you mean remove the suffixes from the particular card page?
If this is done, will they still appear (rightly so) with suffixes in checklists ?

Jon,
If the card has the proper notes (that is, Note = ERR/COR/BASE/VAR and note 2 equals the matching this to Note with a colon and the description), then the additional card number field shows up on the edit card number page. Then you can remove the "a" from the actual number box and put it in the additional box. That way the card can be found with the actual number displayed on the card. It will display on the card's page as the card number, and then in the checklist in list form, the additional lettering will be there.

Does this procedure require additional permissions? I tried what you stated, yet did not see any prompt to add or delete any suffix designations.
