I added scans for roughly 10 or so 2014-15 Hoops Red Back Parallels today. I found it much faster to just scan the backs and then copy the front image from the scans already on the base set.

Is this something that is considered acceptable here or is it best to just scan the front of the card I actually have as well? I don't want to step on anyone's toes or take credit for something I didn't do myself other than save and post an image. 

Considering there's a decent chance those scans may be mine, I say use them. The fronts being absolutely identical means it won't be inaccurate,

With that said, I know sometimes differences can be subtle, so I like to always scan both sides of cards I submit!  Plus, I find I get added enjoyment from cards, as scanning slows me down a bit to enjoy and examine each and every card I submit (which is also, unfortunately, the reason I will likely never get through all my cards)!

If you are for sure that the front (or back) are exactly the same for each base or parallel set, then you can use the one scan for all those types of cards. However, like bkklaos said their are very subtle differences to some parallel sets so you have to keep and eye out for that.

As long as you KNOW FOR A FACT that the scan matches the actual card you are adding it for, I don't see a problem with it. I do it all the time. For nearly a decade, Press Pass Inc. made parallels that had exactly the same backs as the original base/insert/AU/RU cards. As long as I have proof of this with cards in my collection, I save posted scans that are missing for parallel versions and upload them here. One of my top goals on this site is to add as many images as possible, even if I don't own the card. Every little bit helps the site get better and more complete. Since I passed 33K points a couple of days ago, I'd say that I've contributed a lot so far.
