About once every 6 months I delete messages from my in box and sent box.

I deleted a total of 2,500 today.

Is this a benefit to the website?

If everyone performed mailbox message maint, would the site have better performance?

Is there an official policy statement about this topic?

I delete all my messages after I read them.  Thank you for the tip regarding the sent box.  I just 46 messages in this box.

Inbox - 17,819 message(s)
Sent Items - 26,559 message(s)
Only 248 in my deleted folder, but I do have 19 custom folders with who know how many messages.

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now. 

All jokes aside, I would assume that if message storage was a detriment to the site, Admin would periodically purge certain default folders, like "Deleted" and "Sent".

I just checked and I have nearly 5,000 messages in my "Deleted" box, dating back to 2017. Many of them that old are Match Alerts, and I would think that those would be some of the first ones removed from the system if it would benefit the Database.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

In my defense, I do have 10+ year's worth of messages there. But yes, I could probably clean a lot of it up.

I've wondered the same thing myself. Much like abide I go through from time to time and clear out older messages. Whether or not it helps the site, it does help my compulsive tendencies.

About a year ago I was having problems finding messages that I sent to members.   I send out a lot of messages asking If we can do a deal.

At that time I started to remove all Send messages labeled Transaction Update and Transaction Messages.   I'm now doing a little more so I can keep aware of who/what/when I send out messages.   I tried the custom folders but they do not work for me.

Maybe I will clean out my Deleted files in the same matter.

I do like that this site does not care how many messages you keep   

many years ago when I was on another board, I could not send a message out until I deleted more messages and I had less than 100 total....it was super inconvenient at the time since I was about to leave to go to dinner or something..

I like being able to sort by member to see if we have messaged in the past sometimes.
