It is a great idea, Joshua; unfortunate that it will probably never happen due to trading being a secondary 'luxury' on the site.
I will echo caution to all users regarding posts and even individual messages that come through from accounts that are brand new. Several users send me messages looking for advice on vintage cards or say they are related to an old-time player and want to buy his cards. These 'users' seem to never log on afterwards.
Also look for accounts that were created years ago, yet have 0 forum posts, 0 trades, and 0 cards in their collection but still log on.
TCDB a great tool for collectors to trade and gain knowledge regarding the hobby, but be diligent in researching who you are dealing with. There are always scammers out there.

I agree that it's secondary, and may have been much more so early on, but if you take the many enhancements that have been added to transactions and the number of transactions that have been accepted (and many more offered) the focus on trading may have increased over the years.

I agree with Brodiescomics: the "recent matches" feature is pointless , if it allows matches for traders that haven't logged into the site in years . It would be benificial to be able to remove long dormant accounts , or at least not have them appear on the matches feature . I was hoping that blocking the user would prevent them from being included on the search matching feature.
Dormant or long time idle accounts seem to be a common problem with most trading sites. I would be glad to volunteer to help filter or close some of these accounts , as I am an avid user of TCDb and have time in my retirement :)

Additionally, I have sent multiple messages to Admin over a long period of time requesting a certain member with multiple accounts be banned from further trading, especially since even having help (supposedly), the newest account is receiving a lot of negative feedback. I have yet to hear back on the latest one. I agree that something needs to be done to stop those who are known to scam or be poor traders.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

I fully agree. Is there any way to remove (or at least make inactive) anyone who has not logged in within, say, over a year?

This thread is about temporarily blocking trades and sales by members. Please kindly use another thread to discuss a much-needed update on dormant/inactive members. Sorry just trying to keep the thread from being hijacked.

Maybe just add a probation on all new accounts. Something like requiring them to send first their 10 first transactions and/or get 10 positive feedbacks. It is not perfect and not pleasant, but all it takes extra time to complete the first transactions before being a full member. We have all started somewhere and we don't need to penalize new legitimate members for some rotten apples in the basket. It also works with repeat offenders who create several new accounts when they get too many negative feedbacks for not sending the free common they promise to other members.

I remember a similar policy being in place at Sports Card Forum when I traded over there a few years ago. Not perfect, like you said, and it would only work for trades and not sales. However, it's still a deterrent.

Can't people police this on their own? Several times I have worked with brand new members, or folks making their first trade. I am just always upfront and honest. I usually say "Hey, I don't mean any offense and I have no reason to distrust you, but since you haven't established a positive track record on the site, would you mind sending your cards first?" I have never had anyone decline.
