I'm a new user here, been here just about a week, but yes, this site often seems incredibly slow. I thought tons of ads might be cause of that, but am not sure anymore. There were times when the site worked fast, but it only happened like once or twice during this entire week I was a user here. Other times everything takes long time to load. Glad to know that isn't the norm for this website :)

Yep, stick around. This isn't an accurate representation of how the site normally is.

It has been slow at times but I've not experienced stability issues--using Chrome on a windows PC.  The system is usually great--and I hope some delays don't chase people off.  The site really is worth it.  I'm sure the leadership will sort out the performance issues with an increase in usage.

The answer to this question may be obvious, but would the latency issues be such an issue if there were more paying members?  I love that the site is free but would become a paying member if I thought it would help. 

Ant contribution to the site helps. Being a premium member removes the ads so that helps latency issues for people differently. When I moved to premium things zipped along so much better. With that said, the widespread issues that were happening has seems to worked itself out for the most part thanks to Admin. I haven't had to many issues for days now.
