When using my scanner, I put a small rectangular object against the edge of the glass, and then put the card against this object. After scanning, I can crop out the image of the object and the card is already straight.

I like this idea! I've considered playing around with scanning cards in pages, but there it might not come out clear, perfectly straight, etc.
My scanner is already pretty good on its own with picking everything up and correcting crooked scans. But a nice white 9 card template would be amazing. It would only have to be thin enough to allow the scanner top to flatten slightly curled cards.

I could probably buy the already complete sets cheaper somewhere else, but I like getting my maildays.

I used to use toploaders, but my wife found a narrow ruler at one of her crafting stores that allows me to put a few more cards on the screen at a time. A template would be ideal.

I tried using other objects to push the cards against, and found that the plastic around the glass is crooked, so even using this method, nothing was straight. Just using software to straighten out the scans has been just as useful.

I'm actually using a small handheld Epson paper scanner and feed the cards through the reader. Sometimes it takes 4-5 tries before it goes through correctly but it does a good job of scanning. Can't scan any thick cards though. Cards that have clear areas make it interesting so I have to put the card on white paper before scanning. I'll work on uploading better images but still have about 300 to go.

That's a good point too and I always check my scans to make sure I'm straight as I'm cropping them in Picasa and making minor adjustments, but the idea of a template or something similar is nice just to make images much straighter to begin with, rather than just throwing them on there free form and hoping for the best.

I put a small plastic ruler on the edge of the scanner and line the card up with it. If the card is cut correctly everything is fine. And put a piece of colored construction paper over the card so I can see the lines to crop to. I use the construction paper to brush away dust every few cards.

You know you're old when you didn't even realize you could scan more than one card at a time. Whhhhhattt? Yup...that's me. Had no clue. Glad to know now, as I may reconvene doing scans as well. Especially now that I know you can do more than one 😵💫🙄. Boy I am dumb.
great questions and answers!

Yep, that can save some time! It really depends on your scanner's software how it works. On my previous scanner (HP all-in-one) I'd put up to 9 cards down on the bed and then click the preview button. The scanner would show everything on the glass and then I could outline each card individually, click save, and all the images were saved individually (without the scanner having to re-scan).
On my current scanner (Epson photo) I do the same process up to the point of clicking preview and outlining each image. But when I click scan it re-scans each card one at a time. It takes longer which is annoying but the quality is better so it's not a terrible trade-off.
One other option I know some people go with is to scan one image of all of the cards at once and then crop it into individual cards later.
Anyway, it's great that you learned something useful that should save you some time since scanning gets time-consuming as it is!

Yea I guess I'll stop uploading images when you have people that assume you are submitting photographed images when I know they are scanned. Do not assume you know what you're doing
