When composing a trade and requesting a card that isn't on the other person's sale/trade list and/or offering a card that isn't on their want list, can you still link to those cards directly or do you just have to type it in without the link? 

No I don't think you can.

Hard for the system to move cards from one member's collection to another's if the card isn't there in the first place. Completely intentional.

I mean, if it's in someone's collection but not on their sale / trade list.  If there's a way to request a card from someone's collection rather than from their for sale / trade list, I haven't found it yet.

The best way is to message them Just to see if they are willing to trade cards that are in their collection.  I for one will not trade/sale cards out of my collection.

I get that, and did so with a trade I'm working on.  Now that we've agreed on the trade, I was just trying to formalize it correctly through the site. 

Ask him to move the card to his trade list so you can use it.

You can copy and paste the cards you want or offering in the blank box above the "select items" box.  I traded that way the first eighteen months I was here.  You have to manually add or subtract the cards to add or remove from your inventory.  I use the "system" now for most trades, but sometimes the "system"   doesn't work as it should.
