Been working on cleaning up PIDs to actual players and coming across large amounts of mismatches. I understand many of the cards have only either Last name or nickname,but there is a lot of Rodrigos, Diops, Juanmi, Nachos and so on. I am asking that people who are adding CLs please go in when you have time to clean up names to match who the card portrays and not just assign PID. Full names would be more helpful

Names are autolinked in 99.9% of the cases. In the case of it being an active player versus a player who rarely (if ever) gets new cards, the PID can be changed to become the "auto-link" by an L8 member. If there are any cases of this, please let me know and I can either make that setting adjustment, or, if you have the permissions, I can walk you through the process.

Thanks Dan, been slowly doing it, I didn't realize how bad it was until I decided to clean up a few names.

I try to do all that when I add the image of the card. This way I can confirm which player goes with which PID.

Thanks Manny,  it took me a whole day just to clean up Sergio Fernandez as mostly placed here as Sergio and that went everywhere even into Alvarez and Gonzales, really helps when people understand the proper naming methods,  I started with Rodri and that continues to get placed in different PIDs. Little by little it's getting done. 

I thought this needed to be revisited as I have out of the net this past year, I added a few LaLliga CL whenever I could have access to internet, Lately people have gone into them and changed the Names to what the card front say and deleting the full name I had placed, by doing this created more of a problem by NOT  linking to correct player or if Player needed to be added to site, linked to PID to other players instead of making new player. I have been adding to 2023/24 Megacracks whenever I had free time and NOW i am having to go back into a set which was 90% fixed and redo PID as well as what ERR/COR, or new products being released for this set. another item is RC designation, there is Ten's of "new players" just cause it says Master Rookie, do the research as a few have been playing for years and they are not true RC by definition, Again some of the names that regularly get changed but to Wrong player, if this helps  examples are Vinicius, Rodri, Albert Mari, Riquelme, Nacho, Ramos, Duarte, Ronaldo, Blanco, Araujo, Laguardia this is a small sample of Common names, 

I do appreciate the help on these sets as I have ton of Scans to add to and rather be doing that then going back to put the Full Name to correct player.

In cases like Soccer where a player usually goes by a single name, if that's what is on the card, that's what should appear in the Name field. We just have to make sure it's linked to the correct one out of the many. Also note changing a Name field doesn't automatically reassign it to someone else unless the setting to clear the PID is also changed, so someone changing Name from "Ronaldo Smith" to "Ronaldo" won't change the underlying PID unless someone requests to clear it. We've had this with "Ichiro" on the Baseball side of things -- removing "Suzuki" doesn't reassign the PID elsewhere.

Unfortunately from what I've seen for years, users upload checklists and rarely check to make sure they're linked properly, then that checklist gets copied to 50 parallels and we get 50 entries needing an update. All you can do is offer advice and teaching moments, but most of the time, they don't care.

By your logic, naming by what the card says it would create an even bigger problem, it works for Pele, Joselu, Gavi, Portu, Even Messi (until another one comes along) and a few others mostly Brazilian players who have been established and use their nicknames, but with sets from La Liga you can have sometimes I have seen 5 or more cards of players named Nacho on front you have to dig to see which is which, normally someone creates a list here and it's up to people adding scans or just looking at cards to see the card doesn't match a player. example are 

• Nacho (B. 02/1967)
• Nacho (B. 03/1989)
• Nacho (b. 1955)
• Nacho (b. 1955-04)
• Nacho (b. 1980-06)
• Nacho (b. 1990)

Which one gets the Nacho adds? Nacho Fernandez, Nacho Sanchez, Nacho Martinez, Nacho Monreal, etc.? it would be the one the Alias is assigned to; it might be wrong one if not verified

The system checks for an Alias first before assigning to the lowest-numbered PID. The "Nacho" alias is currently assigned to this profile.

Why is soccer the exception to the rule?  Any other sport, if a single name is on the card the full name goes in the name field. For instance, "Babe" on card, "Babe Ruth" in Name field.
