Hi - really sorry if this has been asked before. Is it possible to generate a list of players who have had just one baseball card in their career? Someone asked me how many players that would be and I thought there might be a way of finding out on here.

I am guessing not becauase of multiple releases each year. Plus my guess is there is no cards with such exclusivity. If you start finding them you can creat a user list. Or submit a new feature to add filter for players with X amount of cards.

Are you asking about just major releases or overall, because even the players that had one major release card likely had multiple minor league cards too. Best bet might be football or basketball before the 90s

It's funny you just asked this because Greg (Night Owl) recently updated his "One Card Wonder" list on his blog.
The other two here make a good point, though--even starting from a list like this you'd have to check in the DB (or elsewhere) to see if they actually have other appearances in oddball/Minors/etc. sets.

I'd suspect that to be a no (not at this time) ...

THe first player Greg mentions, Shledon Burnside, is an example of what is being said. One major release card, but he has 2 minor league cards to his "credit"

That was my first though is how do you count "one" card. Is it one per brand? One in majors only?
Most players have several from the minors before they ever make it pro. Even the leagues that are one step up from college ball have cards these days.
I would guess you would have to look at leave early 70s or before to find any true one card players.

Looking through the list in the database of baseball players who went to Michigan I can find some examples, like Rich Bair, Moby Benedict, and Brian Berryman, to name a few. It would take me a while longer to go through the whole list, but it might be interesting to do at some point. FWIW, those three examples are of minors/oddball cards, so something I'd be even more curious about is, how many players only appear on one "mainstream" Major League card (like Donruss/Fleer/Panini/Topps/Upper Deck brands) and nothing else?
A user list is a great suggestion for this kind of thing especially since people that look at those sometimes help research them as well.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate all the input.
I have asked whether they mean just major league cards.
I will pass on this info and if they want to do any more research then they can.

pinch runner Herb Washington
...but since he had Topps, OPC and Topps mini, that's three, so he doesn't count
