I am in the process of creating a checklist for the following non-sport historical set: 2013 Independence National Historical Park: Heroes of the Undergroud Railroad

I have some of the cards in my possession and a few questions about how to order the checklist.

As you can see, by visiting different sites in the park in 2013, one could pick up different cards.  The cards are not numbered, but there is a letter on the back of 7 of the cards.  See here: http://npshistory.com/brochures/trading-cards/inde/heroes-of-the-underground-railroad-harriet-tubman.pdf

My question is this:

I know the checklist and Underground Railroad cards are NNO.

Should the other 7 cards be listed with their letter?  The letters on the cards spell out the word Journey.  If they are listed by letter, should the letters be listed in alphabetical order?  Or should they be listed as J-O-U-R-N-E-Y since that is the word they spell out?

I would like to get advice before jumping in and creating a checklist that will need to be changed later.

I think it should be listed in the order it was intended. Therefore I think if it is meant to spell out a word, then that should be the order. Granted that is only my 2 cents and I have only done a handful of checklist on the site so take what I just told you with a grain of salt. I am sure others that have made more checklist will chime in. 👍

Technically, if those letters are nothing more than a design element and not a card number, they should be ignored for TCDB purposes.

If they are card numbers, then the set should be ordered in alphabetical order - not in spelling out the word. So E/J/N/O/R/U/Y would be the proper order (for TCDB).

Another member just listed a whole bunch of these types of sets (and I helped him get going on it). Each sites' set was listed as a seperate set (all listed as "inserts" with nothing being the base checklist). Not sure if that format helps (or works) here.

Dan-I was the person you worked with on the other set as well.  These cards are all from the same site, just buildings that are next to each other.  I would tend to view this as one set since the typical person would go from building to building and have the entire 9 card set in 2-3 hours and the set was only available for a few days at the park (although extra cards were given out after until they ran out.)

The letters are probably a design element.  I am thinking NNO.  I know when I first got some of them, I was looking for all of the letters A-Z with my son, and we quickly learned there were not that many cards and they spelled out a word and you were supposed to figure out what the word was.

I will add the checklist as NNO unless anyone has any other opinions on it.

As much as it would look cool to spell out JOURNEY, I agree with Dan, they should be alphabetized.  Even though you could attain them all relatively easy, if you ended up getting a couple or got one in a trade, you might not know its supposed to spell out something, making it harder to find on the checklist.  I would alphabetize the cards with letters, putting the NNO cards at the end of the checklist, and then in the notes section (I don't handle notes, so somebody could tell you better how to do it) mention how even though the checklist is listed in alphabetical order, the cards spell out JOURNEY.  It would make the checklist correct, but still show how the cards were meant to be organized (that is if that's how the person wants to order them).  Since 7/9 have letters, I think that would be the better option then making them all NNO then have someone come in with a report to correct the letters and reorganize them.

NNO with the Journey Letter in Note2 should be suitable.
