An issue I've noticed throughout the site on sets with parallels is the lack of notation being carried over from base checklists to the parallel ones. When copying checklists, there's a field to change Note1 to something else, and many users take this opportunity to add a serial number to every card, but when doing so, it wipes out everything from the base checklist, so anything marked as a subset, a checklist, a UER/VAR, etc., doesn't get copied to the parallel, and when this is done 5 times, 10 times, 15 times, that means every checklist needs to be updated separately.
A tip when doing parallel checklists: when copying the base checklist to parallel and the base checklist has things in Note1/Note2, do not change the Note1 field during copy! If you leave it blank, all the notes from base will get copied over when saving, then you can go back after, edit Notes of the new parallel set, make the appropriate changes (add SNs to everything in one shot, wipe out unecessary RCs and SPs with a quick command, etc.), and everything will be good!
Once you have the new parallel set the way you want it, you can just copy this one when creating more parallels, and that way you don't have to worry about stripping out RCs and SPs again and all you'd have to do is update any print or serial number info.

I would like to piggyback on Ed's post here. Everything he says here is 100% spot on. If you do not understand what this means as far as how to do the copy and then do the subsequent Note updates to make the checklist "Complete and Correct", please, simply don't do it. It's by far easier for one of us who fully understands the process to do it than to try to clean up after someone who doesn't.
That said - if you want to try it, and are having trouble understanding, please reach out to me (or Ed, he's great that way too), and we'll guide you through the proicess so you too can understand it, and then be able to do it on your oiwn next time the opportunity arises. We want to share knowledge. We don't want to clean up. :)

Thanks for the tip Ed and thanks for all you do on our site. Especially the extensive and diigent work you recently did on the 1998 Dunruss Crusade Baseball set. Out of curiosity - What's the worst mess of a set you've ever tackled?
Thanks Again!

I think I know what Ed will say. :) We'll see if I'm right. (Update while typing - Ed posted, and that was what I was thinking!)
As for me, 1991 Fleer took forever, but that was because I was going through 2 sets, side by side, and when I saw the difference, I scanned the cards and added then right then. Took about 2 weeks to get through all that. The other ones have been the sets with high numbers of variations. They have been the worst. But I think 1990 Donruss was worse than 1988, 1989, 1991, and 1992. (1992 only had 2 variations, while 1988 and 1991 had 3 variations. 1989 had 4 very distinct versions for most cards, but 1990 had double prints with different borders, and different backs, and the boatload of errors, which also had to be tracked by the VARs on the back - I think we got up to 6 different versions of some cards there, while others had only 2.)
I just wrapped up earlier this week a non-sport set that was actually 2 series released in different years that had to be split up. On top of that, there were parallels that differed in each series, and then parallels of insert sets that weren't documented anywhere (except that we could see examples of them online). That one took about 1000 IRs to be written to move images and collections, and to remove listings that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

1997 Score inserts
1997 Score Premium Stock inserts
1997 Score Hobby Reserve inserts
The first one was a retail product, then they released series 1 in hobby form as "Premium Stock", which shared some of the same inserts as retail and had an exclusive insert of their own (which they managed to misspell the name on every card!), then they changed the name to "Hobby Reserve" when they did hobby series 2, had another exclusive insert while sharing some of the same as retail AND they put out a thicker version of series 2 into the retail version but without the prefix seen on Hobby Reserve! That one took a long time to straighten out but it's finally set up the way it needs to be!
Getting this topic back on...topic.... what brought this up was Upper Deck MVP, where I saw a bunch of parallels missing CL and rookie subset notation and I had to go through and fix each one separately.
2018-19 Upper Deck MVP Gold Script parallel
This was one of eleven parallels that had to be fixed manually.
Now compare 2020-21 MVP base to 2020-21 MVP Super Script parallel and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

OMG! Just looked at the Change Log for both 91 Fleer and 97 Score. I can only imagine. The 91 Fleer Change Log is 16 pages long.
I consider it a bleesing - we have guys like Dan and Ed on the site.

the only i like to add is before the copy function is used, make sure that all the players are in the parallel. NOT ALL players are listed in each parallel, depending on the MFR

Ed, Dan, and Tony all raise excellent points that apply to everyone doing checklists: do them correctly including the notes, make sure you actually know what you're doing, and DO YOUR RESEARCH!
