Something needs to be done to fix it or pricing just needs to be dropped. I don't see using ebay as a price guild as a good thing. The prices there are not stable and we have all see the overpriced cards there. That will do more damage than good. Plus this will make all cards to have a bottom-line price of one dollar. Because no one is selling a common card for under a dollar there.
This will only make a bigger mess of it and more people will turn off the pricing here. More than 80% of people here do not use the pricing here already. Using e-bay as a price guild will only make that percentage high.
I can't vote for that. There has to be a better way.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

I would hope it would only be completed sales and not just listing price. You really would have some inflated values then.

I'm not opposed to using eBay "sold" prices as one source for pricing (and I agree that the use of the API would take a lot of guesswork out of it), but there need to be some checks and balances. It would be nice if there was also a way to incorporate some other reasonably accepted sources, such as SportLots, COMC, etc.
Does the eBay API take into consideration auctions that get cancelled or are unpaid/refunded after they close? If not, I would be worried about artificial price inflation occurring.

I'm with RJ. I'm not a big fan of eBay pricing. When I look to propose a trade I check on SportLots to see what it would cost me to purchase a similar card. I usually don't take shipping into account. The exception is when most cards are 50 cents, or more, and there is one card for 18 cents (minimum pricing) but there is a $4 shipping charge for it. I have seen many cards for $2-3 (with $3 or $4 shipping) that I could/did buy on SportLots for 25 cents plus $1 shipping.
While a "common denominator" would be nice I'm not sure eBay is the best solution.

Same here I would rather see an API of Comc or SportLots. The way the market is with E-Bay is right now, I think it would be more of a mess than it already is. Myself I use the prices here as a guideline. But I always check Comc if I think some are off.

I have not used the ebay API for this purpose but I am confident that it has sold item pricing which is the only way to do it.
