I seem to be missing something since the beginning of this week. I see Kidd Fan 5 and the new Kidd 5 Fan member listings. The 1st looks to be a douche by his listing of who he collects. I'm guessing the second one is the same person.
Dan, Chuck, Bernie: PLZ give me more info in a PM. WTH is going on here?

I've been curious about Kidd Fan 5 and their collection for a while. The original profile said no trading or selling ,she had been collecting with her father and was just cataloging the collection. They were adding thousands of cards a day, complete sets of baseball, all sports,non-sports, from the 1800s-2020, hard for me to believe someone has 50 complete sets from the 1800s. Then when I saw the photos of some that were uploaded, they all looked mint, a little unusual, now I hear they weren't actual cards. That many complete sets for all sports, non sports is unbelievable. I also noticed that as soon as a NEW set came out(20 Topps), within days, they had the complete set( with variations). It looks like every 2020 set that's been loaded is a complete set, with all the insert sets complete too. Really seems unachievable, I'm still working on 20 Bowman Prospects. It would be nice to see a 4 million dollar collection. Heck, Id just like to see that complete 1952 Topps set, with all the variations and 2 Mickey Mantle cards-maybe another 5 million dollar rookie card. Must have a huge house and extra large safe to store such valuable cards! Personally, I think someone just went through adding complete sets and using photos instead of actual card. That kind of collection would be in a museum, or auction house. Didn't Kidd Fan 5 win a couple of awards for all that loading?

They (whoever is behind the profile) were adding photos. Some were not too bad, but some were downright awful.
I personally wish Admin would pull a Milli Vanilli on them (Grammy award anyone?) and revoke that award too, but I don't see that happening.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

Also, she changed her avatar to a picture of Hitler. Which may have been reported to Admin. And possibly the FBI too. Not that I would know.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Just noticed this morning that Kidd Fan 5 has hidden or removed their collection. Close to 2 million cards from all categories gone. Really makes me wonder if the 4 million dollar collection was real.

Bobby, as you noticed, that collection included, among a host of other high-dollar vintage and tobacco cards, a T206 Honus Wagner, and hundreds, if not thousands of complete tobacco and vintage sets. There's no way it was real, and it's a user that has had their share of problems on here. It started when they joined and immediately added a partial set, and when corrected, chose to be rude and nasty about it. Over time, they then started adding horrendous photos and images and deleted all their forum posts.
After some time, this profile changed their picture to a female, and came up with the excuse that they were helping their father catalog the collection that he and her grandfather had bought from all over the world, and they weren't interested in selling or trading (maybe because, ya know, they didn't have any of those cards). That's when the loading of complete sets, one after the other, began. Let me tell ya, that was a pain when they "had" cards in sets that needed to be combined with others or deleted altogether as duplicates. They also continued to add subpar images and photos, which is what led Dan to this forum post.
Finally, last week, they changed their profile picture to that of Hitler and listed some questionable things on their profile. Their motive is unclear, obviously, but I'm sure this has something to do with the collection going away. After going through several IRs to tag their poor images for removal, I started looking into it a little more, which is where I gathered all of the information above. I know now thanks to Spaz that they also have a second profile (Kidd 5 Fan) that has started adding Jason Kidd cards to their collection - which is where the original profile started. I would still be cautious of this user, as they clearly have too much time on their hands.
But anyway - point is that there's no way the original collection was real.

Nec Aspera Terrent I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

My question is - Who really cares??
If I wish to list that I have the 1952 Mantle or any / all other vintage and almost priceless card in my collection, whether I have them or not is of no one's concern.
I am not concerned with other peoples' fantasies in this hobby. Yes, the bad uploads he/she/they were doing is wrong but it is for Admin to do something about it when someone raises the issue. It is Admin's issue, no one else's.

I guess they are living out their baseball card fantasy through the TCDB. I just don't see the point of it. It's interesting.

Bruno, I think the concern at that point becomes - why?
Perhaps I don't trust well, but anyone doing that on a public database with a lengthy write-up is doing it to grab attention (and it worked, I'm guilty). I cannot fathom one well-intentioned reason for someone to list that they have a card like a 52 Mantle or a T206 Wagner in their collection when they actually don't. Wantlist? Sure. Heck, let me put it on my wantlist 17 times, I'll take 'em.
To me, it raises a red flag that the intentions of that site user may not be pure. I know that occasionally, we have to tweak things to work around site barriers for the intentions of tracking our collections. That's one thing. But to blatantly add false cards and build a collection up of nearly 2,000,000 cards under a false story screams "trouble" to me. So I'd say that it is a concern to an extent, though I do appreciate your point about not really caring. It doesn't directly affect anyone except those who genuinely care about their collection rankings (and I know there's a few out there who do).
