An observation and a question from a new member. In the short time Ive been a member Ive encountered freindly/helpful/patient members that reinforce the community based theme. Then there are the people that appear to treat this page like thier own personal database. ie. I found a card that I hadnt catalogged, so when adding it I saw that the set didnt have a college TID (all in college uniform) so I added them to each card (which already had the pro team, but didnt take anything away, someone went through and deleted them all under the premise of the "rules". I reread the rules and my takeaway was that....it is labeled with the pro team over the college team if pro team is listed,(it is) but doesnt mention anything about adding additional info (better?) When I asked about it (for clarification) the response was essentially (my words) Look man I dont make the rules I just follow them. Since the card was from '13 (no scan) and showed 47 people have it in thier collection, my initial reaction was they dont care so why should I? This isnt about a single card, I am simply saying that new members can be made to feel unwelcome and can quickly give up on adding to the database because of the reactions/responses of other members. in full disclosure the thought was generated as I got a polite/informative msg saying I was labeling some cards wrong and another demanding me to stop and to "fix it" (all the cards I labeled wrong have been corrected in accordance with the rules and Im presuming that both are mods or L8s) The word salad is trying to ask, is there people designated/willing to answer questions? being new it appears the only option is asking in here?

Anyone who is not "Admin" is here on a volunteer basis, and there are many of us who try to follow and enforce the rules. Some are better at educating the new members. Some are bets left to simply fixing things without much interaction (myself included in the latter at times).

I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

I thinks I understand your frustration, because I myself felt that way when I first started. Then I realized that some people are more direct than others and try to make their point using very direct language, which tends to stifle conversation instead of encouraging it, but also gets to the point quicker.
To all new people please read the FAQs and understand that not all possibilities are covered and then it is left to our discretion and just because one member sees it one way doesn't mean not everyone does
Lastly, even though the Admin does have final say it is OUR site where we can chose to document the history of Trading Cards for everyone to use in the future so accuracy is of course very important.

Time for another bump of this thread. We've had a lot of new members in the last month again, and several really need to see how things work around here.
Additionally, signing up one day, and attempting to sell a couple (or many) of the more valuable cards in the hobby in your first couple posts on that same day are extreme red flags for the community here. (If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, it usually is a duck - same with scammers - and the community here will call you out on it!)
To those who are new, welcome. Please understand that several of us have been here quite a while, and understand how things work. If one of us sends you a private message in an attempt to help you understand things better, please take it in the light it was intended - it's not meant as a reprimand, but as a means of educating the new user.

New and existing members who are looking at this excellent thread, please be reminded that photographed images are not allowed for cards of missing images. While you're welcome to use them in the mystery/identification forum or for your own purposes for cards in your collection (such as in-person and through-the-mail autographs of base cards), please do NOT submit them to the general queue. That's per this FAQ, which states:
- Do you accept photographed images of cards?
-
For images of cards that are added to the general site, photographs are not accepted. This is to maintain an even quality in the images. Some of the problems with photographed cards are image skewing because of the lens angle and lighting irregularities because of the flash or ambiance.
If you are using the site to track your collection, you can submit images of your cards into your collection. Photographed images are fine in that case.
Photographed images are also fine for the Card Identification Forum.
I've had to reject a number of such images lately, and I hope the folks that uploaded them see this and stop wasting time and effort uploading them since they won't get approved.
Thank you as always to everyone who submits proper scanned images. If you'd like to be one but aren't sure how to do so, there's a number of very helpful members here who've put together guides on that very subject!

I just wanted to add two things for all the newbies. If you have a question, do ask on the forums. There are plenty of members here willing to help you with any question. It's the best way to learn things.
The unwritten rule for newbies trading is. You will have to send them first and then after we receive them, they will be sent to you. This will end when you start receiving good feedback and you become, One of Us. (Insert silly evil laugh here.)
So hit me up for a trade. I'm willing to get you going down the road.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

I have been uploading scans lately and some of mine have been rejected because they were "photographs". I have only uploaded scans but I realize I must be doing something incorrectly for them to be labeled that way. I will not upload again until I have educated myself completely on proper scanning. Thanks so much for the excellent information. I love this database and I really enjoy adding to it.
