There has been an increase in the number of images being posted to checklists (in particular Topps Now, Living, Project 2020, on demand cards in general) that are mockups and not scans of than actual card. This is just a friendly reminder that posting mockup images are not permitted on this site and will be flagged for removal. The actual card is sometimes different than what the card companies intially post on their website. Also, from what I have noticed, when mockups are posted, the zoom feature is limited and does not really zoom in on the details of the card versus a card this actually scanned.

There's some serious point farmers who have made a killing on this and don't own any of these cards. LOL

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

I agree with both posts above and I'd like to see a rule banning mockup images enforced. But exactly where on TCDb does it say "mockup images" are not permitted on this site?

Mockups may not be what the actual card looks like, so it's best to wait until the actual card is out

This implies that mockups are sometimes permitted on the site (if it matches the actual card), which contradicts the OP. The problem with waiting until the actual (scarce) card is out is that we may never actually see the actual card because it may stay packaged for decades or if unpackaged, the card's owner may never bother putting the card's image online.
Example:
From https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2018-topps-update-series-baseball-cards. Note the Serial Number.
Our current (as of this post) TCDb image:
I've searched TCDb for an official guideline/policy regarding mockups but haven't found anything official yet.
Edit (more questions):
- Is there an official TCDb guideline/policy regarding mockups that I missed?
- As far as scarcer cards, if we submit IRs to have mockups removed, what's to stop the point farmers from re-uploading their mockup images?
- Do point farmers lose their points if their mockups are removed?
- Have any point farmers ever been suspended/banned from TCDb?
- Are there any serious consequences for those who habitually upload mockup images?

It has been discussed before, and Admin has said that mockups are NOT allowed.
We had a situation a couple years back where a player in the Topps flagship set (baseball) also had a couple different shortprint cards with the same card number (usual Topps stuff). Well, the base card mockup that was on every site was used here. Problem was, the photo used in the mockup wasn't used on any of the actual cards. So as people were pulling the actual base card, they were thinking they had some sort of SP that was undocumented. Made a mess. Admin stepped in and removed all the mockups from the member who uploaded them for that set and stated then that mockups were not allowed on the site. (There were some Topps Now mockups that were different, and Topps Living too.)
Admin's official stance on using images from other sites was written here: https://www.tcdb.com/Forum.cfm/Page/S/ID/136480/?MODE=VIEW&ThreadID=9790&PageIndex=7 - in there Admin states "Copying images from other trading card websites for use on this one – not legal" - so whoever is taking these mockups from Topps is not in compliance with TCDB's policy. Plain and simple.

What is even crazier is when I see a serial numbered card that I have get posted a few days before it is in my hand. Knowing darn well that I didn't purchase it from the person who posted it. Just saying I want some points too is all!

We have a lot of TCDB members who collect the Topps On-Demand cards so many of the images will get scanned and posted once the card is in hand. So rushing to post an image of a card not yet produced is not necessary.
