I am planning a document scanner purchase and would like to know recommendations for a scanner that works best for cards.

Any with a CCD scanning element, my personal preference: Epson V550 or V600.  There are other, cheaper options I'm sure (V37?).  Whatever you do, avoid all-in-one printer/scanner/etc. as I've never seen one that does quality card scans.

I just went from an Epson all-in-one to the V600.  Scanning speeds are greatly reduced.  The arcsoft program that comes with it is pretty good.  You can preview a grouping (I do 4 at a time) and select thumnail view and they will have their own frame and be pretty much rotated.  Then scan and you have four pics automatically loaded to a file you designate.  I don't find the auto-cropping to work very well if you actuatlly want scans that are not over cropped.  I also find the Arcsoft to not be the easiest for editing for some prizm and refarctor cards.  Some are great, some need lots of editing to look good.   With regular cardboard cards, the auto enhance gives very good pics.

I found a photo editing software that works extremely well.  ACDSee PhotoStudio.  If you download a free 30 day trial, they will contact you with a special $29 offer versus the $89 list price.  Every time I was told.  The rotating is down to 0.1% and the croping is super fast.  But the multiple color editing options are amazing.  I mostly load these shiny cards, so its really helped.  I can scan four cards in a minute (front and backs) and the open the pics in ACDSee and final rotate and crop in a couple more.  Color editing takes as much time as you want to give it.  If you ever use the software, reach out and I can give my experienced learned pointers.  

But the V600 is amazing compared to the all-in-one for speed.

Epson V600 is what I use as well. I've owned 5 scanners since 2005 and it's probably the highest quality one I've owned.

SCANNERS !! I could make a scanner museum dating back to the early flatbeds. lol.

I have found and used all different programs, Some I like while others are ehhhh. 

Questions? -1] Do good scanners allow more than 4 cards/scan? It would be much faster and economical if you could scan, let's say 9 cards/scan. 2] I have the Arcsoft Program that installed w/ my V370. Honestly I jump right to other programs to do the "fix it" work. Would you say the Arcsoft Program has merit?

Anymore tips would be welcome. Thx. 

After my vintage resort, I have so many scans to add. I want the easiest, fastest, etc. program to use. I also want to catalogue all scans going forward in a Google Photos file. No, I will not use my ADF for these cards! lol.

I have an ancient Epson. A quick Google pic search looks like I have a Perfection 1650. I will need to double check exact model number when I am at home. I also have Not hooked up but still functioning (last I knew some 12-13 years ago) I have a much older (circa mid to late 1990s) fladbed scanner around somewhere I forget the exact brand but I'm fairly sure it was "M" something.

I've been using my Mustek A4 large format scanner.  I use to do comic art so I needed a scanner that could handle 11x14 pages. But that means I can scan 16 cards at a time.  I was using an old version of Photoshop elements for editing, but that finally stopped working and have been using the free Photoscape after Billy's recommendation, pretty straight forward.
