As I progress with my collection reorganiztion, I've upped my need for scanning and scans.
SO: Any advice.?
1. What scanner do you use and why? I have 4, not sure which one to use, Kodak AIO2150, Canon AIO mx492, Epson ADF DS510 and Epson V370.
2. What software do you use? Software that comes with the scanner? OR a special software that you like better. Many on here like using Photoscape in addition to their main scanning software. Any suggestions?
3. How do you store your scans? Dropbox, Google Drive, my Computer or something else?
4. PLEASE, any other tips that will make my scanning endeavor easier?
Now, I do expect the TCDB Community to offer all sorts of help [because that's the way we are here] . I will read everything that's suggested and use what best works for me. Thanks in advance, ~BOB~

I'm replying ASAP
1. The 550 is better than the 370. Both are suppose to do a super job. Hope the 370 performs.
2. I guess Epson's software for photo scanners would be the best to use.
3. I read that Google Drive is the way to go for storage. Any thoughts?
4. Have to take my time. That's a must. As long as it's easy, flawless, and clean - that would be fantastic

1. Canon MP990 and MP610; both use CCD scanners and autorotate/autocrop. Your Epson V370 uses CCD, the others use CIS.
2. The software that came with the scanners; ArcSoft PhotoStudio
3. When I store scans I store them on my computer.
4. Use your Epson V370

1. I've been using an Epson CX6000 for years and am pleased with it. It won't print anymore but still makes good scans.
2. I use the Epsonscan software. I use Photoshop Elements to touch up the images when necessary.
3.I store the images on an external hard drive with backup to another external hard drive. One of these days I'm gonna backup to the cloud.
4. I use a custom developed FileMaker database to view the images and keep track of them.

Epson V600
Photoscape
PC
I use a lot of the tips in Billy's scanning guide. Rotation was my biggest issue, and now that I found where to fix it in Photoscape, I don't worry about getting cards lined up perfectly straight on the scanner bed.

1. I have a Mustek large format scanner, can't remember the model #
2. I was using an old version of Photoshop Elements until it died and now I'm using Photoscape, took some getting use to, but it's fairly easy to use and free!
3. Depends if it's just a random card not in my PC I usually save it to my computer and the then delete later, but I use a lot of my scans for images for blog posts so I have an external hard drive I save all those too.
4. Don't be afraid to rescan, with a large format scanner I can scan 16 cards at a time, so I try to take my time and spread out. I'm currently working through my logged collection on the DB here and using the missing images function to fill those holes in on the DB.

Thank you, All good stuff !
My take:
SCANNER: I'm not buying another scanner [although tempting], the EPSON V370 is the choice and will have to do !
SOFTWARE dilemma, I saw ArcSoft Photostudio and a Photoshop somewhere on my computer. Who knows how I got them, but I guess they work. I will have to fiddle with them. Photoscape, I have it, but never found it easy to use. I know members that swear by it. For me, IT MUST BE EASY !
STORAGE: Naturally scans have to store on your computer sometime, somewhere., but the less there are the more room you have. I'm really looking hard at a cloud like Google Drive, free, and keeps your computer free. Available on all your devices as well. I have backups galore, external drive and internal drive. Nobody mentioned flash drives, Does anybody use them? I can see an organizational plus to using a few of these?
For now, TY again, ~BOB~

I use Photoshop for my editing needs
I store all my scans on my hard drive
When scanning cards, I use a piece of junk mail that has just a shade over 1/16th of an inch in thickness as my straight edge and to ensure that I don't cut off any of the card unnecessarily. I also do a double crop. I do a rough crop about a half-inch out from the card, save that, then close and re-open the image. It adds an extra step doing it this way, but it allows me to have a much closer, zoomed in image to get a more exact cropped image. Doing it this way makes it enjoyable to me when I scan in cards and also helps me find defects in some cards.

HP Deskjet 2540. It's ok, but the default settings were not ideal for card scanning, needed a lot of tinkering, then minor tinkering as well.
Irfanview is what I use to crop.
Flash drive is the way I go since I lost everything last fall. Stores scans, images and checklists that I've added (and haven't), it's a 32 gig one, using it less than a year it's half-full (they're dirt cheap too).
Learn keyboard shortcuts for cropping, that's what I've told everyone who has asked me here. Keyboard shortcuts are a big time saver. Less time using a mouse when cropping is key.
