I know one of the reasons we joined the TCBD was to be active traders. Recently there has been numerous gliches in the Transaction Manager. I'm not going to determine why, but with TCDB growing so fast and with recent upgrades and new features, maybe they are affecting the way cards are calculated. I know for sure I had cards on my T/S list, but couldn't find them for a trade. This makes us look bad to the trading partner and could lead to negative FB. I noticed a large number of members have shut down their trading link as well. Presently, I'm not trading much, but any trade I offer and/or accept MUST be accompanied with a PM to my trade partner. And that's before, during and after the trade. I'm just not sure we can trust the Transaction Manager totally without an overhaul to reduce the the errors. Feel free to reply.

Nah, no overhaul needed. I've been very active and only a couple of deals was there a glitch. Common sense rules of checking prior to submitting or accepting an offer is needed no matter what system we're using.
I have suggested a tweak for VARs, but I don't call that an overhaul, just an update, or upgrade.

I concur, no overhaul is needed. The glitch we were talking about last night and in the past few weeks is just that, a minor glitch.
You are correct that we cannot trust the TM totally but as Joshua stated common sense is needed. It is the responsibility of both trade partners to do their due dilligence in a transaction. My rule is to not offer nor accept a trade if the cards are not verified first. And I too am very active. Takes a bit of time, but oh well.

Bob, A while back I proposed a trade to you, You replied that a number of the cards I asked for you did not have which I have come to expect from TCDB members.
The reason for the "Glitches" you refer to are with a 95% probability input error....... The cards I am after are error or variants which get added by people because they add an entire set WITH variations rather than just adding the base set as they should be doing.
I would say at least 75% of the cards I have submitted trades for were Not available. I was going to propose a trade with you a couple days ago but you have trading turned off. Could be the reason for slow trade activity.

I forgot to mention that I made a suggestion to Admin near the end of May 2019 regarding the action dropdown list (when updating collection) which I am hoping will help reduce the number of error/variants added by mistake. Prior to this the top action included err/vars and now has been reordered so the top selection is just the base set. Hopefully this change did not cause those used to the previous order to mistakenly add err/vars when not intended.

Bob as great as this site is I get frustrated with trading for another reason. Some people just refuse to respond to a trade offer. I make the trade offer, send them an e-mail, wait 3 weeks or more while noticing they sign on every day to the site and still no response. I send more e-mails with no response. I'd like to leave them negative feedback for wasting my time going through all this to propose a trade but at the end of the day, like someone on here always says, they're just pieces of cardboard. The only errors I've experienced is when I've got offers out for a while and then someone else wants the card and we do the deal, next thing you know Mr. Month and a half then accepts the trade. Other than that I think the trade tool works pretty well.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

Unless it's someone I've dealt with multiple times before, I will send the e-mail FIRST to guage interest in a trade.
I did that a few days ago, in fact. Still haven't heard back. Only time wasted was a couple minutes in writing a friendly e-mail. Not a huge deal in my book. (On the other hand, I have a 800-count box sitting here next to my desk that's about 3/4 filled for someone who e-mailed repeatedly and then vanished.)

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 3/4/2024). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned on (details are in my profile).

Agree with all previous posts except that there's a problem with transaction manager..the issues lie in the people doing trading..like everything people have mentioned here..
I've seen people not do all of the transaction manager steps correctly which will screw up collections..I've had people short me on cards and not realize it until months later..I've had 6 week old trades suddenly accepted and by then the cards were sucked up in another trade..Ive had sets I thought were complete only to discover that 1-2 cards were missing upon physically going through the cards..
And you can ask for people to communicate throughout a trade and it doesnt work/happen..

Thought y’all were crazy until I was putting a trade away just now and found two that I just traded for I apparently already had (likely received in trade earlier this year). That’s not good.

It’s probably mostly input error. I’m actually making my way through my sets and checking to see if I actually have all the cards a I think I do. You’d be surprised, I’ve found 8 mistakes so far, and a duplicate card. So, I now have even more sets that’s I only need one card of. Oof
Im sure I have some of my FS/FT cards listed incorrectly due to input error. That’s why you gotta check before offering/accepting.
