Hi everyone,
I've taken a scan and a photo of a card and wanted to get opinions on what should be uploaded.
I know there are rules about no photos but the card is a holo type card and the photo looks way better than the scan.
I took the photo with a DSLR under diffuse light, the quality of the image is good.
What do you think?

I can't see the images (at work and they must be hosted by a blocked site here), but I will say with certainty that the photo will not be allowed. The requirements clearly state no photographs, scans only.
If you use any type of photoediting software that allows partial rotation, you should try scanning it crooked, and then using the software to re-orient it to be straight. Many times, the simple act of a slight rotation will pop the hologram.
Again, no photos for card images. They will be rejected.

If we're about being sticklers for rules, use the scan. If we're about helping people actually identify their cards, use the photo. Unfortunately, site rules probably dictate here, but maybe your impressive effort can help get the site rules changed in cases of difficult sets like this. And obviously, if we started allowing photos, some people wouldn't go to the painstaking effort you went to, to get a good one.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

- Do you accept photographed images of cards?
-
For images of cards that are added to the general site, photographs are not accepted. This is to maintain an even quality in the images. Some of the problems with photographed cards are image skewing because of the lens angle and lighting irregularities because of the flash or ambiance.
If you are using the site to track your collection, you can submit images of your cards into your collection. Photographed images are fine in that case.
Photographed images are also fine for the Card Identification Forum.
That was taken directly from the FAQs. Nowhere in here does it say "If the photograph is better than the scan..."
Photographs are NOT accepted. I'm really surprised that there are even thoughts being entertained about this by some veterans of the site.

Oh brother. I know it's a rule. That doesn't make it a good rule in this specific instance .

The rules must have been put in place with some forethought and ought to be respected.

Not the only rule that is frequently questioned and raised over and over again. Allowing one photograph no matter how much better it looks than the scan would open up a flood of photographs to the site.

I agree that it's a very impressive photo, and like Billy, I wouldn't have even noticed. I personally agree with the camp that says no photos - and I agree with it because of the reasons mentioned. We already have a problem with subpar scans being submitted on a regular basis; let's not open up another can of worms.
To put this issue to bed, send Admin a message, and contain a link to this thread so they can see the images. I am going to guess that they will tell you the same thing as other members have mentioned on this thread, but that would pretty much end all debate on the topic.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.
