The only way to replace a 1/1 image is to buy the card
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I believe this has been discussed previoously. I totally agree with this Guideline (should be Policy).
Again, get rid of points for uploading images after the final milestone for permissions is achieved and the majority of this problem will disappear.

I will entertain trades but please don't offer me a 1993 Dave Stieb for a Nolan Ryan rookie. I prefer player for player (at least similar era and similar stardom).

We ALL know how I feel about stealing 1/1 images from eBay. I bought one and some ass had already posted the image. Yup from eBay. I made my feelings felt on a few occasions now, I do not care where the image came from and who uploads it but PLEASE own the damned card before uploading it. All half images from this point on IMO should either NOT get points or be deleted. I'll leave now it 7:00 am gotta get the kid ready for school. =)

I'll just echo all the intelligent comments. When I started here, it never occurred to me that people would just steal the image from some other site. I've uploaded images for any card I have that didn't have one. I scan them. I have frequently encountered images I was suspicious of on the site -- near mint images of tobacco cards that would be worth thousands. Check out the T206 Honus Wagner; it's beautiful. Maybe Wayne Gretzky is a site member? There are lots of members with lots of points who have uploaded perfect images of cards not listed in their collections.
I doubt that it's worth it to remove all of those -- it would actually hurt the site at this point -- but on the guidelines page, it should state very plainly, "All uploaded images must be from cards you have in hand. TCDB does not permit copies of pictures from other websites, magazines, or others sources to be used." I didn't see where it actually says that specifically.
Anyway, thanks to all who properly upload the millions of cards we have here.

The problem is Admin has actually come out and said that as long as the images meet the guidelines, it's ok.
However, the problem here with the submitter in question in this thread is the fact that the images being submitted are in violation of multiple rules/guidelines.
So, if the card is scanned, properly cropped, centered, and without plastic (reflections), the source is unimportant. But, it must meet our standards.

I don't run the site, and the admin does a FANTASTIC job, but taking images from other sources has the potential of leading to all sorts of problems. Similar to the reason we're told not to take checklists from other sources. I think the source of our images is important. But I shall defer to others wiser than I (i.e., pretty much everyone).

Oh, and I should add that there cannot be any watermarks and cannot be a mockup. It must be a scan of the actual card.

It must be that time of year again. We had a nine page discussion of using images from other sites last January. Admin's response was half way down page 7.

Thanks Lea DeFoote for bringing that thread back. I knew it had been a lengthy discussion with many differing opinions. But rereading Admin's response, it brought me to thinking that an image on ebay is frequently not the image of the true card for sale but one that the seller has copied from another site. Is it legal to copy his copied image that came from e.g. Beckett's or COMC? Or could that get TCDB in trouble? Is ignorance a legal defense?
I still hold that the scans you upload should be of the cards you own. In this way, there can be no legal implications that could bring this site down. There are enough members now on here who contribute that I believe most cards will eventually have proper images, definitely in the 1980 to 2020 time frame.
