My wife was perplexed when I opened a recent ebay win last night. She has no idea how long I've been attempting to obtain this Syracuse alumni card, without having to pay book value. And when I got it for a third of BV and it was finally IN MY HANDS...well, I guess she'll never understand. It's at times like this I wish I had someone, in person, to share with. Until then, I'll share with all of you. MY FIRST VINTAGE JIM BROWN CARD!!!!

That is an excellent card from an excellent set. The '62 Topps football set is one of my favorites. Congratulations!

I will have to count my blessings that I am lucky enough to have a wife who actually likes that card collecting is my hobby. She will occasionally let me know that I am apparently a nerd, but I guess collecting cardboard may fall a bit under that category haha. She even bought me a hobby box of Hoops in October as a surprise. She also is as big of a baseball and basketball fan as I am. We watch just about every Dbacks game and we watch every Suns game. She even enjoys watching other teams play more than I do.
However, while I am able to share my hobby a bit with my wife, I still need to come to you guys to talk about things such as parallels, serial numbers, short prints, refractors etc. I show her a card and she will either just say that's cool, that's ugly, or eww that player is a loser or a jerk.

LOL. You reminded of when I took my wife to her first hockey game. She's not a sports fan. Hates when I watch on TV and is bored to death. On our anniversary a few years ago I took her to an AHL game. Yeah, thrilled, for sure...lol. But it was OUR anniversary and she went along. As we were watching and I was explaining, she transformed. Think all those werewolf movies. I've never seen such a rabid fan. Yelling and screaming at the players, jumping up and down, cheering with the best of them. It was a sight to see. I don't know who was more surprise, me or her.

Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.....
Not only does my wife understand, she had a pretty nice collection herself from her younger days, and then after we were married, we got into hockey cards because I bought her some Traditional First Anniversary gifts - paper! (Steve Yzerman cards.) So, not only does she understand, she participates!

And someday, maybe, I'll get the Erine Davis card.

Love that Jim Brown card - wish I could afford it, but it exceeds my $20.00 limit. Just a little jealous.
As for wives, my wife gets upset when I spend $0.49 to mail a few cards, and to this day doesn't understand my collecting, nor my trading. It's a war everytime. She does keep me in check though as I'd probably be spending boatloads more than I should.
And, Chuck, I took my wife to see Saving Private Ryan on one of our anniversaries. She hated it. I paid for it though and had to see Hope Floats the next day.

Well I found a girl who loves hockey. She didn't seem to be a big fan of me though. As for the Private Ryan comment, my co-worker's husband took her to Schindler's List on their first date. She still married him, but they never went to another movie together again.
And congrats on the Brown card. Very cool! We all get it here, Chuck!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

My wife understands that cards are the way to my heart. Well, that and a good burger. lol
She'll buy me sometimes, and loves to see the look on my face when I buy boxes or go to a show. There's nothing she can do to fight it, so she goes with it.
