This is a three-part question:
- Which card do you covet, is on your Want List, but you're 100% sure you'll never own?
- Which card in your personal collection would you never trade or sell except for the right card such as for the one from question 1?
- Which card from your personal collection brings you the most joy when you see or hold it?
Here are my responses:
- 1951 Bowman #305 Willie Mays RC, my all-time favorite baseball player, but way beyond the $20 max I'd pay for any individual card.
- 1980 Topps # Rickey Henderson RC, I love speed, but was not really a fan, yet it is a rookie card of a hall-of-famer and if someone offered me vintage of similar value off my Want List I'd consider it, and Henderson's other cards would probably end up on the Trade List.
- 1966 Philadelphia #58 Bob Hayes RC, this is the card that eluded me as a kid and finally made my collection as an adult. This is probably the most nostalgic card I own for that reason.

I want to answer you, but you probably won't enjoy my answers.
1 - I only put attainable cards on my wantlist, so even the ridiculousness I'm seeing in the prices of the "4" Phillies from the 60s are doable.
2 - Nothing is off limits at the right price. I realized this many years back when I sold a couple of those 1985 Nike sets (very early Michael Jordan card in it). I was going to save one for myself, but the prices went hrough the roof and I had to capitalize. I do not own any of them anymore.
3 - All of them, mostly different reasons. I have too many "favorites".
Sorry - pretty boring answers, but honest.

Great post! There's a few for #1. I would say the 1986-87 Fleer Jordan that most incorrectly call a rc. While the Star cards, the 48-49 Bowman, and others all rank higher on the cool factor, there's no way I will ever be able to complete those sets. 86-87 Fleer I could, except for that one card. In fact, I'm only two cards away from completing it as is.
#2, all of them. When a card enters my collection, it stays there forever. I only ever traded one card that was not a duplicate, in 1996, and it's haunted me ever since. I have been looking for a replacement ever since and I simply can't find it. It's the David Robinson Electric Court parallel from 1995-96 Upper Deck.
#3, most of them. I just love the concept of trading cards. Even the ones I've been given from sports I don't follow are incredibly interesting to me. There are some sets I really dislike...1998-99 Fleer Brilliants which are all sticky, 2000 Topps USA which are all badly airbrushed, 2003-04 Fleer Avant which is just a mess, 2009 Wheels Main Event which should never have existed in the first place...but even the crappy sets make me appreciate the good ones even more. Honestly, if I could afford it, I'd probably buy baseball and football cards too, even though I don't watch the sports. Just because I love the concept of trading cards. Of course, I can't even keep up with the sports I already collect, considering most sets now are $200+ for a single five card pack. But that's s whole other rant...

Awesome post!
1. I would love to have a Pierce Brosnan Autograph card, but since I never pay more than $10 for any card, I doubt that is going to happen.
2. My favorite card is an Autographed 1995 Marvel Masterpieces Wolverine by Nelson Decastro. I met the artist in perosn, and the base card has always been my favorite card of the thousands I have collected. Getting it signed was the high point of my collecting, but I woudl trade it for number one, since that's a tougher card to obtain.
3. I'd have to answer with number 2 again.

1. 1976 Topps Walter Payton RC. I'm not a huge Payton fan (although I have much respect for his career) and as a die-hard Vikings fan, I don't like the Bears. I need this card to complete my '76 set but I don't want to pay what most people ask. I currently have a reprint holding the spot in my binder and I'm almost ok with that.
2. I have a '62 Topps Fran Tarkenton RC. My favorite player of all-time. This is a tough set to find cards in good condition because of the black borders and common centering issues. I got lucky and found an excellent quality card at a reasonable price ($75 I think). That's way more than I would ordinally pay for a card, but I couldn't pass it up.
3. See #2....

1) Any former Buckeye 1/1. Or, for that matter, anything serial numbered 50 or less. I consider these to be bonus to my collection; anything SN over 50 I consider attainable for the purpose of collection completeness. Beyond that, probably a Stan Musial RC; the most expensive Cardinal RC I'd likely never get for my 'other' personal collection of Cardinals.
2) It's unlikely I'd trade a non duplicate of a former Buckeye, but if the offer knocks my socks off, I'd at least think about it. Especially if I think I could ultimately replace the card later.
3) I have a 1933 Goudey Leon 'Goose' Goslin card. 'Goose', a Hall of Famer, is my nephew's great second uncle on his dad's side (his mom is my sister). So absolutely no relation to me directly, but still pretty cool.

Fun! Ok, here goes:
1.Covet: Too many to name, really. My wantlist includes every Topps baseset I don't have, and I'd really love to have many really difficult cards. Banks rookie, maybe from that list. But I'd really love any hall of famer on an original Gypsy Queen or Old Judge card. Or any vintage Walter Johnson. Sorry I've given a weasellly answer.
2. Wouldn't trade. Still too many to name, but I'll try to leave my weasel tendencies behind. I guess, by a hair's breadth, I'll go with my 1953 Satchel Paige. The card is beautiful and it's Satchel Paige, who's just such a legend in skill and personality. It's even graded, for whatever that's worth, SGC 4, which is about as high a graded card as I have.
3. Most enjoy. I was going to follow others' lead and refer you back to #2, but I really like my 1912 Hassan Triple Folder. Beautiful design. Three cards in one. Great language on the back. Cubs. Ed Reulbach on one side -- the only guy to throw two shutouts in one day; Jimmy Archer on the other side -- a catcher whose arm muscles were strengthened after he fell into a vat of boiling sap; Johnny Evers sliding in the middle. I love that card. Also graded, PSA 4.
Nice question.

for me
1. The Magic, Bird, Erving 80'-81' Topps, would be the cats ass if I could some how get that card. Magic was the man for me. I was 12 when he came to the Lakers, he was the greatest, 9 finals!
2. 74' Pete Rose or 66' Joe Morgan love those cards, and also Magic Johnsons second year 81-82' only a $10 card but I love the photo, great card.
3. see #2

Setshot- I remmeber seeing that Magic/Erving/Bird card for sale in my local shop in 1996. It was the first time I had ever seen that set, having begun collecting the NBA only earlier that year. I thought it was the strangest thing ever. I still kind of do. I don't have that one yet, though I do have most of the set. That one's too pricey for me. I have to settle for the 1996-97 Topps Stars reprint, in both regular and Chrome versions. I hadn't thought of that memory in almost 20 years.
The second most I've ever paid for a card was for Magic's autograph. If you look at his gallery on here you'll see it, it's one of the Sweet Shot sets UD did.

Covet - has to be the Bobby Orr RC. I had a chance to get one in the early 80's but at the time $100 was WAAAYY out of my budget
Wouldn't trade - Ray Bourque RC - favourite player, one of my favourite sets, the first set I ever completed and i wouldnt break it.
Enjoy loking at the late 70's Topps English Soccer. Hard to find, but remind me of my grandparents who found out i loved soccer and brought me a couple packs when i was a kid.
