I thought "Top Trumps" were like the CCGs? So they are more like Flash Cards?

Dan I agree about that Trival Pursuit thing. That is what I consider the Inhumane "Cards Against Humanity" set to be a game where the cards don't change. Maybe an occasional "update" set that brings in new questions to keep the game interesting some 10-20 years later. Hmm might as well add all those Strat-O-Matic cards eh?

I'd like to collect Cardinals and former Buckeyes on some of these playing cards and board games without actually collecting the whole deck or game.  But I don't know if that specifically qualifies it to be listed here.  However, if it is listed here, then it would be easier for me to identify what I am missing from my PC.  But it would have to specifically have different players depicted; not simply a whole deck with the Cardinals or Buckeyes logo on each card, for example.  I'm sure my opinion doesn't help solve the debate, though...

Aside from the fact that just about everything bothers me,  the baseball players photos on a deck of cards does not.    I can't speak for the other decks as I know nothing  of them, which probably proves that ignorance is indeed bliss.

well, football does have playing cards that were put out with college players and they are entered on here. i for one can lean on the side that if the playing card has a sports player on it, then so be it. Any board game type of card (from Milton Bradley or whatever) a big - NOT from me. 

i don't even liken the Magic or Pokeman deal, but i get it because for some its a highly collectible item. as for others.. just clutter.

I know of at least two sets that included standard playing cards as inserts. They are certainly here. In the 1990s they issued several sets of NASCAR playing cards that had different things on each card. I have them but don't count them as part of my collection. I am rethinking that however as I believe they included some 50s drivers who did not get a standard card. I have not looked at them in quite a while. Not even sure I could find them to post if we go that way. 

Earlier this year I decided to integrate the Panini stickers and Adrenalyn XL cards into my NBA collection so perhaps it's time to incorporate these as well. 

I also have the sets of aircraft recognition cards issued by the US military during WWII that I have been debating weather they should be posted or not. 

I realize that I don't have to compartmentalize everything into different collections, when it's all part of the whole. I am leaning towards counting them as the early days of NASCAR are not as well represented on cards as my other sports. 

For what it's worth Beckett includes some, but not all,of the sets I have in my collection. 

An additional thought that I don't want to get lost in an edit: while it's true that the backs are the same on each card from set to set, how many inserts could that be said about already? Hundreds?

Also, 1951 Topps baseball was issued as a game, was it not? While I admit my baseball knowledge is lacking, I think those actually came from a board game...yet no one does not consider them cards.

The 1951 Topps set was kind of a game. They were sold in packs of two. The backs were, indeed, identical. The corners of the fronts had things like "foul ball" and "double" on them. So if you collected enough, you could play a game with them, I suppose. But they weren't sold as "Topps Baseball Game! With 52 Star Player Cards Included!!!" For whatever difference that's worth.

Team Fire Safety or Police sets were issued as sets therefore, by your reasoning, they should not be in here?

But some of these are numbered wrong as they should be listed by card # and suit, e.g. AS, 2S, 3S,... JS, QS, KS.  I looked at 3 of the sets and all three were wrong.

So somebody is thinking that my Ranford playing cards do not count? Do not see the logic, sorry. It is a card, it has a hockey player on it and it is a set. I guess we should delete every boxed set of cards from every section of the DB, I know for a fact somebody on here was bragging about the fact they only bought factory sets and us other folks were just wasting our money on hobby boxes. I guess he is no longer needed since his sets came in a box and each box is exactly the same (other than the "bonus" inserts in them). These debates are pointless  ............ if they were not allowed Admin would have removed them by now. As for "CAH" I have every single card up to this year (can not even buy the game in Canada .... have to buy online) but it does NOT belong on here. It may be tradeable to some extent but not a collectible. If I can look at cards of flowers, airplanes and The Duke, I can look at decks of cards with 52 or more individual pictures on them. Will have to double check as I uploaded some of those NHL playing card sets and was positive I had done it correct. Hmmmmm.

Point being, there's a fine line between a card being a "trading" card and being a "playing" card. I do believe what we need to take into consideration here is the intention of the manufacturer. If NHL Aces produces a deck of cards that has 52 (or 54) NHLers on them, they are probably producing them to market as a collectible item, not an actual gaming item. (I hear you all saying, but wait, MtG, Pokemon, etc... - I'll get to that.) The decks of cards you can buy in the lobbies of the casinos or at other establishments meant for gaming purposes (shuffle, bend, deal, flip) are not neccesarily marketed for their "collectibility" but for their "playability".

Magic, etc - Issues in packs like sports cards with tiers of scarcity and inserts. It's more than a game. I have played MtG (albeit about 20 years ago) and the cards (not mine, a co-worker's) were each sleeved to protect them as they were not to be handled/shuffled/dinged like a true playing card would be. They are collectible, that can be played as a game.

Deck of cards with no people - does not belong here.

Deck of cards with people (sports/non-sports, doesn't matter, could be 54 scenes from The Princess Bride) - belong here.

I would even venture to say that if a deck had 54 different cars or trains, etc., Admin would say they belong too.

But a plain deck, no.
