Unknown players, typos, people named "Carl", wrong photos, etc...what's an obscure/oddly-specific type of card you're always on the lookout for?

Hollerin' Managers
Player--Team Match-ups; player's name is same as team name (or close).
Zero the Hero; 0 and 00 uniform numbers

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

By obscure it sounds like you are talking "niche" collection/collecting. In that case I collect players with my Name (either first or last) and some variants of it. My birthday of April 4. At one point I was trying to get players who were born in the general DC area or my State of Maryland but that makes the scope of collecting way too large, even narrowing it down to my hometown of Silver Spring was too much for me to continue with or to care about. I'm not much of a college card collector but look out for players from University of Maryland for it being my local Homie college. I also like players with names that are unusual (for instance once I blogged about a football card of a player named "Chip Glass") and players that share the name of a non-sport celebrity or share the name of another player from another sport.
-------------------------------
I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

For me it's any strange cards or anything with monsters on them. My son and I will go through boxes of random cards and typically find someone off the walls that we end up liking. Last strange get for me was a small pile of unopened cards from possibly the 70s called "Mazes and Monsters". Still not 100% what they are and they aren't listed on this site as I can't find a complete checklist of them. I even reached out to the company that made them and they were amazed (no pun intended) that there were still unopened packs floating around, and advised against eating the gum. They weren't even able to get a complete checklist of the cards made because they had subcontracted with a Korean company to make them and didn't know.

Any/all cards of Nebraska football players. One of each card.
My wife thinks I spend way too much time on the computer looking for them.

I collect German chocolate, trade, and tobacco cards. Stollwerk and Gartmann are some of my favorites.

I have an album of players on the phone. Makes me chuckle every time I go through it.

- Obscure 90s quarterbacks, especially if they only have one card, and bad/mediocre/backup QBs in odd uniforms (late career, brief practice squad, etc).
- 1989 Topps Tony Oliva (ALL versions)

Lavoy Allen. 76ers/Pacers centers only played about 4 seasons in the league. Came upon one of his printing plates and started to supercollect him. Only around 300 total cards including 1/1s.

#1 Lavoy Allen collector.
